@Desert Lily I'm so glad that your fur baby is ok. Your neighbor is a great person, the world needs more people like him.

@Desert Lily What a fabulous, giving neighbor. That's such a kind gesture. They must be great neighbors. I hope your fur baby is feeling much better soon. ❤️

What a lovely neighbor & so good furbaby is on the mend. So you have no 24 hour emergency clinics around? We gave several here (big city) for when vets offices are closed.

@Desert Lily wrote:After dinner on Christmas, I noticed my fur baby had blood in her urine. I decided to call her vet 1st thing in the morning.
On Thursday morning, I found my vet's office is closed until Jan. 2nd. In the meantime, my fur baby threw up, had several bowel movements, & still had blood in her urine. I then called the other vet in my rural small town; they wouldn't see my fur baby bc they'd never seen her b4. What?!
(I have all my dog's records)
I called my SIL who's lived in PA much longer than me, but she barely had a voice & was sick with bronchitis. She offered to wear a mask & take us to an animal emergency place, but I told her to stay in bed & get better.
Then, I called my neighbor who's on winter break from his job. He contacted the vet he uses for his 2 dogs & got an appt. for my fur baby that afternoon. He offered to drive me there, which is in the next nearby small town. I readily accepted.
While driving, the phone rang in his car. It was his brother wishing him a happy birthday. I had no idea.
After an exam, ultrasound, urine analysis, etc. the vet gave my fur baby a Covenia antibiotic injection for a UTI & a probiotic Rx. She's doing better today & on the mend. Thank goodness.
My neighbor found me a vet, left his family to drive us there, & waited for an hour ... on his birthday!
My Christmas neighbor sure is a kind person.
What a great neighbor. Glad your fur baby is better. Hard to find a vet.
Even our pet ER is hard to get into when my fur baby was sick.
My baby is 18 and things are starting, but she is still eating.

@Desert Lily - God bless your neighbor. What a kind and wonderful person he is. So glad you sent him a thoughtful gift.
I'm very happy your baby is on the mend. Just like other posters already stated, why didn't your vet have a backup? I hope you mention this to his office. You may need to start going to this new vet.
Thanks for sharing.

@Desert Lily You are so fortunate to have that neighbor to help with your dog. I'm glad she's better!
I wonder if that neighbor could refer me to his dentist? Yesterday after taking a bite of a cookie it was crunchy, and I realized it was my broken tooth!
I talked to my dentists answering machine yesterday and again today. She's on holiday until Monday! The recording asked to leave my phone number if it's an emergency for a return call. I did, and again this morning.
I've been going to her about 50 years and if an appointment isn't available Monday I'll call another. If they take my insurance!

What a tremendous person and an extra special vet, so glad that you found help. I so loved our vet, but it seems that times are changing and so are ideals. I went to a 'home visiting' vet for several years but she got too busy and so she started having in office hours with only a few home visits that were basically euthanasia, when she stopped having evening hours I had to find a new vet. I needed an avian vet and found our current vet who was getting ready to open up a clinic, we were her 3rd client, she was so proud to have registered Maine Coon show cats as patients. That was probably 12+ years ago. She went from being the only vet with a few techs to having 5 vets plus techs back to just herself and her daughter who is a large animal vet. So we are now back to 3-4 month apointments unless one pays the additional fee ($50-80) to get in earlier. . .
Our Fred is once again having an issue and our little girl senior citizen is having issues-constant hunger, crying and needs her teeth checked since it seems she cannot chew the kibble. So I just called my prior vet Thursday, and she or her associate will see them on Monday. She's further away so I won't be burning any bridges...yet.
