@KateinOK   My heart crys for you.... so so sorry for the loss of your loved one.  I think a dog with a simular loving sweet personality would be a a Golden Retriever.  My girl Lola is about 70 pounds... and just a bundle of love. Sweet, gentle... just wants to be pet and loved all day long. They are people dogs and have a very kind giving personality... no meaness in their hearts.  Probably why they are chosen as service dogs so many times... smart too!

Whatever type of dog you get, it will be a lucky dog to find you and have you as the one they love. Best wishes to you. ((hugs))

Dealing with the loss of a much loved furbaby is sooo hard.  I think a rescue dog would be wonderful.  I've gotten 2 of my babies from petfinder dot com.  You can put in your location, type of pet, male or female, and size you're looking for.  Most of them have a little write up about the animal.  There are so many on there, I can't look at it very often or I'd have a zoo in my home!

I'm so sorry for your loss - they are our children - I know some people don't understand that, but they give you UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.  I know there is another shelter animal out there that needs your love.

Oh, I am so sorry, and know the loss you feel.

We found our rescue beagle online.  We went to see her in person, and I knew right away.  I always think our previous pets have a hand (or paw) in sending us the right next pet.  You'll know when you meet the right one.

Re: MY BEAUTIFUL LABRADOODLE DIED

I'm so sorry for your loss.  I know how hard that is.  I lost my beloved Japanese Chin last year.  Within a few weeks I had my French Bulldog.  Getting a new dog so quickly was a good decision for me.  You'll know when it's time.  I've also had Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.  Shih Tzus are very sweet and also healthy.  All of these breeds are very sweet, but are smaller than what you're used to.

Greyhounds are supposed to be wonderful dogs.  If I were looking for a larger dog I think I would look into a Greyhound rescue.  Let us know what you decide.

@KateinOK

Kate, my sincerest sympathy for the loss of your beloved doodle. May you find some comfort and peace in this poem.

Last Night
I stood by your bed last night; I came to have a peek.
I could see that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep.

I whined to you softly as you wiped away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour your coffee.
You were thinking of the many times your hand reached down to me.

I was with you at the shop today; your arms were getting sore,
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today; you tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you toward the house, you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you; I smiled and said, "It's me."

You looked so very, very tired and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know that I was standing there.

It's possible for me to be so near you everyday,
to tell you with such certainty, "I never went away."

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew....
in the stillness of the evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over, I smile and watch you yawning
and say, "Goodnight, God Bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to meet you and we'll stand side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there's so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out....then come home to be with me
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

Re: MY BEAUTIFUL LABRADOODLE DIED

@KateinOK ... I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your furbaby. While I haven't had dogs, I had two cats who were my "children." My heart ached so badly when it came time to put them down. I loved them so dearly.

I feel the pain you are experiencing...and shock. There are so many wonderful breeds of dogs out there. You can love a mutt just as much as a pure bred.

After I lost my second furbaby in January, I only waited three weeks before adopting another...from the shelter. The pain of living without a furbaby was too much for me. While I knew that adopting another kitty would not remove the pain I was experiencing over the loss of my other cat, it did give me something else to love...and another kitty to love me. It helped ease the pain.

I hope you don't go out looking for another "look alike" labradoodle." My friend lost her dog last fall and adopted a look-alike dog. She spends all her time comparing the new dog to the old one and is constantly frustrated because the new one doesn't behave the same as the one she lost. Every animal has it's own personality and special ways. There are millions of furbabies who need a home. Start looking at your shelter for one who needs a human to love it. Best of luck to you...and hugs! Heart
