A sports announcer tweeted out this "polar" scene from Granville, Ohio.

Can't post the video, but here are stills of these cuties in action--

Those pups scampered along merrily-- you can see how much they love working cooperatively.

Brrr.  But pretty snow.

@Oznell

The picture does not indicate the dogs are being raced.
While it is true, especially in the Iditarod Race, cruelty exists including deaths of some dogs, I do not see that in this picture.

The races today are about the owners, not the dogs and should be eliminated.

Particular breeds are working dogs and are still used in remote areas in Arctic areas. Most owners respect their dogs and are responsible owners.

Considering the history of lives saved, for example, the 1925 Diphtheria Serum "race" and the cultural history among the Inuit, it has been recognized that certain breeds are at their best when doing what is in their DNA.

I think this picture is fine.

Precipitation has stopped so time to use the snow blower  which should be fun because  the wind is  really blowing .

Plan to help out neighbors  by making some  paths in their yards  for  their  small dog to run.

The Huskies pictured appear, along with their owner, to be having a ball.  They love to run.  I bet the whole family lives for these snowstorms.

Considering the safeguards,  constant checks and veterinary monitoring, I serious doubt animal cruelty is an issue in the Ititerod.   There is always an element screaming "cruelty" during any activity involving animals.   I take these claims with a grain of salt.

I'm sure the Commission has safeguards in place but the issue is not all safeguards are checked.

Also the death of any dog is often not acknowledged.

The Commission had to step in in the late 1980's because poodles were being entered. Seriously.

Wells Fargo and Millinium Hotels have withdrawn sponsorships.

"Mushers" have been removed for not following the rules for protecting their animals.

While I "get" the race in terms of historical views but until there are no more injuries and deaths the race is not clear of preventing any harm to any dog.

As I said, however, the picture here is fine and has nothing to do with the annual race. A different thread about the race issue would have been better than criticizing this picture.

Beautiful dogs @Oznell  and I'll bet they were having fun in the snow. Thanks for sharing these photos.

Huskies, like any working dog, are high energy and need a lot of daily exercise which they enjoy.
