Well reading this thread is another good reminder...do not come here to ask about personal issues... unless you have a very strong fortitude.

Or truly want opposing views because no one is shy expressing whatever.

We've seen it, also. A MIL was unkind to the mother, and when the granddaughter was old enough, the MIL wanted a relationship with her. The granddaughter refused because of the way her mother had been treated.

If you have a family and tell yourself it's time for you to put yourself first, and you ignore the needs of others, they'll start ignoring you. Know what you're doing to your family before it's too late. You will have no one to blame but yourself.

Hey this thread is still going. I knew going in that I would take hits when I put my personal issue out there. I have been on the boards since the beginning. I have seen worse. Talked to a friend and she said her DIL doesn't want her babysitting. So there are many issues out there I didn't know about.

one day your daughter in law and son might be caring for you.

just something to think about.

Ummnnn no that is never going to happen. for one thing I am 53 and she is 33 so she might go before me!

It's all about open communication with the DIL (and what about the son?) and spending time with your grandkids. When I was little we would see one grandparent one weekend (or weekend nite) and the other grandparent the other weedend day, night, whatever. So every other weekend we'd see a grandparent...it worked out perfect for us.

Have you no filter? Or do you just say things for shock value?

Not sure you thought the age difference through, Nancy. I was in my 50s while looking after my mother in her 70s. But, hey, whatever.

Nancy...careful...don't know if she is the type...but babysitting might be off the table soon...if she continues down this road. I for my son and grand kids would try my darndest to work on this relationship. Everyone has a limit...not sure this has reached that level...YET.
