The ocean is miles and miles and miles deep.  Think of our landscape with mountains and valleys.  It's the same thing in the ocean.  The ocean floor is not a flat floor.  There are only so many miles we can go down even with a robot ship.  the ocean by the South Pole is so uninhabitable, no one can even be out there for so long.  The sea there is so deep, without light.  Pitch black. If you never want to be found, that's where you would go.
