Omg, if I correctly recall  stories and experiences regarding wars in general, women and young women were often at the mercy of various countries' warring soldiers.  Unfortunately.

Yes, battlefield "concubines" have been around for centuries. And women in our armed forces have been attacked as well by members of our own armed forces. The attitude has been that men, especially in battle,  have "needs" and they have a right to satisfy those needs because women are secondary to men. Ancient times to present, some things never seem to change. They are evolved men, but they are few and far between.

I always found Batali to be gross.

Now I know it to be true.

He may be gross to look at, but he's a fine chef. I suppose because of the way he looks, he seemed harmless. That's why I am still amazed that he is one of the latest to fall.

I don't care how great a chef he is. (I actually remember thinking "ick" at some of the dishes he was preparing, so maybe his great chefness is lost on me)

Apparently he thinks some cinnamon buns will get him off the hook, though.

I was more than bummed to hear about Mario Batali's indiscretions but if you Google him (especially the Spotted Pig) I personally could never watch another episode of The Chew again.  The man has a serious problem and to be honest if you watched him in previous shows the signs were there.  I hope that his family and employees are able to have a good life going forward.

@momtochloe- I was meeting my friend for lunch at The Spotted Pig the day after the story broke.  Of course, I changed our venue.   I wasn't surprised by Batali having had unfavorable interactions with him, but was very saddened to hear that Friedman was involved; he has very lovely venues, especially at Christmas time.  The Breslin is also his restaurant and I didn't know Batali was an investor or I wouldn't even contemplated eating at The Spotted Pig.   I detest Batali and could never stand seeing him dip his used eating utensil in the food and encouraging his co hosts to taste from his fork/spoon....ugh!

@RainCityWoman- he is gross and sloppy in every way.  I've met up with this character numerous times and it wasn't nice.  I find it sad that Lydia has to deal with his dirt which has finally come out.  I've been to his restaurants and he is not remarkable and I don't think without the Bastianich name behind him, he would have his current success.  I'm sure his "stepping away" from his restaurants was forced.  He is an arrogant pig who just happened to have the necessary contacts in the culinary world.  I hope he becomes a "has been" but he "never was" in my eyes.  And, he wasn't harmless with rape room at another establishment.  Everyone knew about Batali

I've been watching 'The Chew' on the nightly re-run episodes on LWN.  The remaining three hosts are doing a great job on their own.  I'm going to continue to watch.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).
