Noel ,that is not what she meant, and your smart ,so you should know that.
What who meant? My comment was a general remark about the existence of assault always being with us. It's nothing new.
My MIL was raped as a child, that must have been in the 1920s.

I hope his sons were taught better by their mother. It would just kill me, to have a child ,that treated anyone that way
Lets not forget , it happens to the same sex ,as well as the opposite one. We are finding out women can also be the offenders
It's an act of hatred ,not a loving one.
I wonder what life has done to them that they are so filled with rage ,and a sense of not being accountable for their own actions?
Many of the people accused are powerful, and wealthy, but that doesn't seem enough for them. They have to abuse other people. What pleasure can there be in that?

Sorry...they had issues back then, as well.
Many want the ‘Head In The Sand Days” to return.
Ick.
No thanks.
YOUR POST, is just not true.
I’m flattered you not only specifically pointed my post out...
but with capitalization, to boot! There are many in this thread
who will agree with my sentiment.

I'm not. Read a book. There are several. Her post was factually wrong. What's next, a dissertation on how "Wil and Grace" created gay people?
I've mentioned this before. A good book to start with is The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. It was written in the early 1900s and is still relevant today. In the book, one of the main characters, a Lithuanian immigrant woman working in a factory in Chicago, was exchanging sexual favors with her boss just so she could continue working.
We know harassment and assault is not new. We also know the majority of the perps are men because women haven't had positions of power until the last 30 years or so. I'm amazed at the attempt to justify/equate/conflate this issue. Especially from the female pov.

Assault used to be a part of war. To the victor went the spoils, and that was true of the Roman army, way back when.
It was also true in WW2. Think here of what happened to Korean woman at that time. It's true, it is all about power.

The only people who want those days back are the people who weren't touched by any of the dangers/dysfuntionality of those days.
Most everyone else sees right through the propaganda.
@Maudlynn, I wonder about that. I'm not so sure that this is the main point in what seems to be an opposition to our doing a better job making sexual harassment more of a liability.
Assuming that we are dealing with women primarily on this board, I think that some feel more comfortable with the gender status quo in general. They may have more traditional values that often look askance at the female victim than at the person charged with harassment. Some even allow for the "boys will be boys" mantra and write it off or diminish the actions.
And it's also possible that some may have been abused or harassed and do not want admit it or think about either out of emotional angst or the feeling that they were able to move on without causing a stir and that everyone else should do the same.
You know, personal responsibility. :-)
And of course there are some who seriously worry about the potential collateral damage and false accusatjions.

I wasn't addressing you, but I was agreeing with you. "Read a book"? Seriously? ![]()

@Noel7 I apologize. That came out the wrong way. I was agreeing with you, too. The "read a book" was basically for the others who were disagreeing with both of us.

@MaudlynnA better place to start (instead of reading a NOVEL from a person's imagination and not factual information) might be a NONFICTION book on sexual harassment in the workplace. There are many available.
