Followed your suggestion to google- shocking  ! Asnwers a lot of questions.

Yes, @karenann55, it was pretty shocking to me. I didn't expect to find all that when I started looking (this was about 6-7 years ago) them up because I'd been ripped off (knowing that was my own fault). But as I read, I was thinking wow, this is scary and creepy and why doesn't somebody kick their atheth out of the country. So glad New Zealand did!

I'd love to use a stun gun on a few kiosk vendors at an outlet mall that I frequent.

It was a lot worse several years ago when the "foreigners" were selling hand cream. (They're now selling curling irons.) They'd dart out and stand in front of you. I called the mall and complained. She said they'd had a lot of complaints and she'd report it to security. If they stopped me in my tracks again, my husband had told me to tell them that I'd call security if they didn't stop harassing me.

They don't stop you in your tracks anymore, but they'll try and get your attention by taking a few steps away from the kiosk and ask you if they can ask you a question.

I turn my head as I pass by them, but if I make eye contact by mistake and they start talking to me, I'll look away and keep walking. If you ignore them, they'll tell you to have a nice day. LOL

I can honestly say I've never had the Israeli Army running after me to give me a facial!

However there aren't any Westfield Malls in the 3 states I own homes in.  Unless they aren't called Westfield.  Or aren't anywhere nearby.

Too bad they can't get the gangs out.  Aren't they known for being a really tough army?  And now they're hawking beauty products?  Watch out Josie---and you thought your worst enemies were here!

Re: MALL rant... need to vent

I have encountered some very pushy kiosk workers in the Palisades Center Mall in NY. They walk with you and push samples in your hands. I took one and it was Argan cream. They want to demonstrate the product on you. Husband had to yell at them. This is not a Westfield mall.

There is one in Paramus NJ, but I haven't been there in years so can't say what is there. I have never run into gangs at any mall.

@stevieb: Mall hucksters, telemarketers.... add car salesmen to the list.

I took my car in for service at the dealership recently. While waiting for it, l went into the showroom to look around in order to kill some time. BIG MISTAKE. A salesman immediately pounced. He asked my name, and l told him-- another mistake. I could put up x-number of dollars and trade in my current model for a new one, blah blah blah. I said l'm not ready. Two days later, he called me on my cellphone to ask if l wanted to buy the new car. (He obviously had obtained my number from the service dept.). I politely said no, l'm not interested.

End of story?? NOT!! A month later, he called my cellphone from his cellphone-- on a SUNDAY. He again wanted to know if I've decided to buy the car. This time l wasn't so polite. I said don't call me anymore, I'm not ready to buy a new car, and when l AM ready, I'LL CALL YOU!! Lol.

This is regarding gang activity at malls:

Sometimes I think people hear the word "GANG" and they think of groups of men being loud, fighting, chains, knives, a rumble, West Side Story, etc.

Gangs are not that stupid in a public place. Gangs often have multiple members of their groups in different locations of the mall; some are on look out, some are actively selling (drugs), some are patrolling and letting their presence be known. To those who are NOT part of the group who needs to be aware, you're not aware BUT.....the people they WANT to make aware...ARE aware of the gangs.

Does that make sense? Our local HS has 2 gangs but....walking around the school, going to the cafeteria, watching class in session, you would see students. Do the SAME thing with an undercover cop assigned to the school who specializes in gang activity and WOW....it's a entirely different situation. THEY see what we don't.

Last, unless there's a sudden outbreak of violence in the mall, you're not really aware a gang/gangs are there. My husband got caught (as did a few other people) in the middle of 2 gangs rushing each other when he came into the mall from the rest-room area. All of a sudden it was crowd of guys fighting and pushing and screaming and... yeah. He was fine, the other innocent people were fine but a few minutes earlier, it looked like a bunch of kids just hanging out, eating burgers, fries, sodas in the eatery.

My point? You never know.

I don't mall, but we've had flash mobs at the local mall.

Re: MALL rant... need to vent

I haven't been to a mall in a couple of years and haven't witnessed this behavior.  I do believe all the accounts here of how bad it is, but what I have trouble believing is how anyone can allow themselves to be intimidated or annoyed by these people.  I know how to ignore and walk away.  I know how to give a "death stare".  I know how to call the police to say I was assaulted the minute someone touches me aggressively.  No one gets away with that.

Oh now that's just ridiculous... @handygal2... Whenever I take my car in, I almost always browse the showroom, but luckily, I've not been contacted by anyone... Should that ever happen is the day I call the General Manager and explain to him or her why I'll be buying my next car somewhere else... I also think it's extremely dicey for the sales person to have obtained your number from the service department and if he calls again, were I you, I might just complain to the GM...

@stevieb: That's exactly what l intend to do should he contact me again. But l doubt he will b/c l was just plain rude to him during his second call-- something l rarely do. And when l am ready to buy a new car, l will likely go to a different dealership, even though it's further from my home.
