We get a lot of calls where no one ever says a word - they're just fishing for live numbers. If you let it go to a recording and NEVER pick up unless it's a local area code, the stress pretty much disappears. They almost never leave a voicemail, they just recognize a machine and hang up, so you don't have to hear from them at all.
That would spoil all my fun. Many times I can keep them busy for 10 minutes or more, thus less time to prey on other potential victims.
I can find many strange ways to entertain myself and this is one of them.

I generally do not answer the phone from numbers I do not recognise. If it is important, they will leave a message. The rogue/scam callers do not listen to requests for them to stop calling, and they don't care how many times we say we are on the do not call list and that we will report them if they call again. If I hang up without saying anything, they sometimes call right back.
There are occasions when I'm expecting a call, and I've been caught off guard by a telemarketer. If I pick up a call and hear the boiler room chattering in the background, I will say something like "Max Bar and grill, meatball speaking". Or "Dominoes pizza, can I take your order?"
If I accidentally say hello and am "caught" by them, I just become deaf and keep saying "What? I can't hear you.... Can you repeat that? Could you speak up please? Hold on, let me turn up my hearing aid.... okay...can you say that again?" They usually hang up before this goes very far.

Never call back these numbers. Sometimes, ur calling foreign countries, including the Caribbean, and you'll be charged hundreds or thousands of dollars. Our government can't protect you. I just call them the F word - and I hang up. Sometimes, I answer with a baby voice and as they're talking, I keep saying, "Yes, Yes, Yes, etc. - and they hang up.
