I went without electricity for 5 days after the derecho (midwest hurricane) hit last August. A friend got her power back in 1 day so I stayed with her one night. My son got his back in 2 days so I hung out there.

I went without running water for 2 weeks after a flood in 1993. We had power so that was helpful. There were military style water stations all over our city and we took our gallon jugs and filled them up.

For me, it was 6 days after Hurricane Dolly. It was horrible, parts of roof gone and water everywhere

About four months.  After hurricane Andrew they had to rebuild the whole system in the south end of MIami-Dade county.  We had to move out of the area, and work on the house in the day.  By 6:00 pm curfew we had to be out of the area as they had shoot to kill orders for anyone found after curfew.

Superstorm Sandy left us without power for over 2 weeks.  My daughter was one year old at the time.  We had to move in with my parents because they at least had a generator that would allow us to use the fridge and some appliances.  Our house at the time ran on electric and oil.  We did not have the ability to use the stove or take a shower.  Just awful.

We recently went through Tropical Storm Isaias last August.  We lost power for almost 7 days that time around.  We are in a new house now that runs on gas, so we faired much better.  However, it was the dead of summer and the temps were in the 90s.  After the second day like that, my husband had a whole house generator put in and things were so much better.  We should have done that when we first moved in, but we kept pushing it off because we didn't think we'd ever have to go that long without power again.  Boy, were we wrong.

We lost power for 7 or 8 days during the Blizzard of 78.  That was the longest.  In our old neighborhood we would lose it for a couple of days after hurricanes and tropical storms, when they took the power lines in the back of our house down.  There's generator here and there was a major updgrade to the power and cable lines when they built this complex.  Now sometimes power will go down for an hour during a storm.

Lucky....11 hours.  Went to my car to get reception on cell and the power went on as I made the call.  Fortunately we had enough food to keep us fed and blankets to keep us warm.
