For me it was a few winter's ago when I was without power for six days. My thermostat went down to 35 degrees, but my pipes did't freeze. I am luckily to have a fireplace so that helped until after a day I went to a friend's house a few miles away who had power and stayed there. I keep checking at home to see that everything was ok. Emptied my freezer and brought to his house. Many of my elderly neighbors toughed it out. I don't know how they did it. Thinking of those in Texas.

A few weeks in 2012 with Hurricane Sandy. Bought a generator after that as our power goes out quite a bit.

Hurricane Ivan left us without power for 5 weeks. The storm sat on top of us for 12 hours generating many tornadoes that wiped us all out.

In late September 1985 I lived on Long Island when Hurricane Gloria blew through.
I had a 4 year old and a 10 month old and we lost power for 13 days. We were fortunate that we had a gas stove so I could cook. I was brewing coffee for several of my neighbors and we were all helping each other in our search for available ice. It was not fun but certainly was gratifying to see how neighbors can pull together. I hope and pray that the situation in Texas improves very soon.

Three days after a storm that produced tornadoes a few miles away. That was too long for me.

Luckily it was only 3 days during the winter .I slept in ski outfit . We had bottled water and then melted snow on our gas barbeque grill . I took mini baths at work .
We also had 3 days one really really hot summer - lucky we had a cool basement and a small generator for fans.

About 6 years ago when Ct had one of the bad hurricanes (We had two, two years in a row, so I forget which this was..)...we were out about 10-13 days.
Ridiculous...I heard the other day we have the highest electric bills in the nation...and one of the worst systems. "(N)Eversource"
The upside...neighbors were outside talking to each other, lol...it felt "quaint."
People were playing board games by candlelight.
We came outside on the deck in the morning to make coffee on the grill...like camping.
Oiy...quaint...but don't bring me back anytime soon.
Sad for Texas right now...we know people there.
