So many of our young people will be able to witness it in a week. What a great blessing for them and their future.

I'd say, the ones that stand out to me the most, in terms of making a difference in my lifetime, then and now, Columbine & 9/11.

The first one that I was fully aware and cognizant of was JFK's assassination. Many, many more since then.

Re: Living/Witnessing History

My mother was a huge current affairs fan, and I can remember coming into the house hearing about the attempted assassination of Harry Truman.

We had an Admiral Console TV (available in Mahagony or Blond finish) with a 7" screen and they were showing films of it I guess.

Completely agree with marriage equality and equal rights for LGBT people. Where I  live was in the forefront of that, so that's when it started to feel like witnessing history for me.

Also all the milestones for women I have witnessed, hopefully many more to come. And for me without a doubt the first African American President.
