I called the shelter to arrange a meeting of my two & the adoptee but he has been adopted! Since we have 4 dogs & this would have been dog #5 we are a bit relieved. I want the adoptee to settle with his new family & then at a later date we want to introduce the siblings (if they are) & see what happens. Thanks for those who responded. You all seem to indicate they would remember being litter mates. I've done some research & most "experts" suggest the animals would not remember but these dogs were born under very adverse circumstances & their survivorship instincts have kept them alive. We are certain the one dog would not have survived without his brother's aid. We've had them 10 months & the smaller one (60lb. baby!) only recently started going outside by himself. He will not eat unless his brother starts eating first & when they sleep they must touch each other. 98% of the timethey are together. In some ways it is so sad to see them so needy of each other. We wonder how horrific the first 5 months of their lives must have been but to see their attachment & devotion to each other is something we have never witnessed. Some think these dogs are the lucky ones but honestly my husband & I are the lucky ones. We have never seen so much love that these two dogs have for each other & us.
