I guess I am a little surprised at the 6 minute per day decision. However, as a teacher, I just kind of laugh at these complaints. We were not allowed to leave our classrooms unattended, so that would mean we would take a bathroom break at lunch, or during our conference period. If the conference period came at the end of the day, oh well. I believe people did leave their classrooms to go, but if anything bad happened in their absence, they would be liable.

If I was only allowed 6 minutes a work day to go potty, I would have to eliminate (no pun intended) several articles of clothing because that would slow me down!
Can't waste (oh brother, Marianne) precious time with clothing.

VIOLA Davis has a new series on ABC this fall. They filmed the pilot at a local college here.

They could require all employees to wear a G-Pee-S at work.

For example in a call center, incoming calls from customers are cycled to representatives automatically. So as soon as a representative hangs up with a customer, and new call is forwarded to them. If the company has many employees away from their desk at the same time, customer wait time to speak with a representative goes up. Call centers usually do a lot of planning to ensure everyone gets the breaks required, yet meeting customer demand. If you add 1-3 more employees who are unplanned away from their desk it can wreck havoc with the whole process, and take hours for the customer wait times to catch up.I once had an supervisor (new job - been there less than 1 week) take me aside and tell me that I needed to time my restroom breaks to my official breaktimes.....like I can control exactly what time I need to use the restroom....I went back to my desk...and stewed and stewed and stewed over her words....at lunch time I walked out and never went back.

As a matter of fact, all of the nurses at my sister's hospital were issued those to track them wherever they went.

Actually I've worked in a couple major call centers both as a CSR and as a manager.....the phone systems used in call centers allows the CSR to put their phone into break/wrap up mode that prevents the next call from coming to their desk and it rolls to the next person available....this allows them to step away when necessary....BUT....most call centers offer big fat bonuses for call quality/amount of calls/talk time per call/etc. so most CSR's make is a point not to move from their desk unless it is breaktime ... not because they can't leave their desk.

I firmly believe that many employees use bathroom time to text or phone. Many times I have been in a public restroom, either at a store or medical facility, and see women/girls coming out w/ their phones in their hands. One time in WalMart, I was checking a stall to make sure it was available and a girl was sitting there texting away. She finally came out as I was washing up and she was an employee. As a 40 year customer service supervisor, I cannot stand the thought of employees taking advantage and wasting the employer's resources, which is time, which equals money. IMO, it's theft.
