scottie: My understanding is that they really don't do anything you yourself cannot do to protect your identity.

They do say that not all identity theft can be prevented by them, and their liability is only if you can prove something happened that they failed to stop. Might be kind of hard to prove.

You are talking about that service and not the plastic containers, right?{#emotions_dlg.blush}

LOL. Cakers, yes, the security service and not the containers! LOL.

I have done the other "check your" services and they are confusing to me. Was hoping lifelock would be easier.

I was considering it at one time, but the reviews aren't all that stellar.

My boyfriend has had this for a few years. Three weeks ago his wallet was stolen with his credit cards, debit card and SS card in it. He immediately called LifeLock and they said they always check for suspicious activity -but - if he wanted extra surveillance now - it would cost him more money. They told him to call one of the credit bureaus to put a freeze on, so no one could get a mortgage, etc. As for his Social Security number being out there, they gave him a number to contact Social Security administration for further help. So basically they didn't do much for him, just told him who he should contact and gave him some phone numbers. I think they should have done more once his personal information had been compromised.

We have it...get updates quite often, free credit scores, alerts to 5ex offenders in our area and multiple alerts. Haven't needed it yet for an emergency.

I've checked into it periodically and have read more "cons" than "pros" about it. I'm not sold on it, yet.

I've never used it, but whenever I hear/read the name I think about that time when the guy who started the company was driving a bus around with his social security number blasted on the side of it in GINORMOUS font.

I guess the point was that he could put his ss# out there without fear - then he got hacked.

oopsie!
