Is it common for Golden Retrievers to lick a lot? My dog doesn't seem nervous. He lick his "private" sometimes, but not to excess and that's the only part of his body he really licks at all. However, he often licks the carpet, my arms, hands, feet. I don't know if it's considered normal for the breed or a compulsive behavior. He does stop so it isn't going on every waking moment, but it's definitely more than just giving a few kisses and going on his way.
