Re: Libraries - Are they here to stay?

Two of our libraries closed their doors within the last few years. They said it was budget cuts. One of the libraries wasn't being used as they had anticipated so that one was bound to be closed. Fourteen still remain open.

Re: Libraries - Are they here to stay?

Oh libraries must stay.  My mother took my brother and I to the library all the time when we were children.  I'm a reader, I love being around books. Hoopla was so great during Covid, checking out books at home with my kindle fire. Long live Libraries!!!

With the erosion of freedom of speech....it's hard to say. It won't be the library I need or remember.

Re: Libraries - Are they here to stay?

I think they are but have been reinvented. I use my kindle so I don’t check out books & haven’t been to a library in years. When I was younger, I loved them & was there every Saturday & we were taught the Dewey Decimal System. Through high school, college & post graduate studies, they were vital to me. Today, everyone googles & there’s AI & that’s sad as the library experience was fun, social & a learning experience. Librarians could find anything & always helpful.

In our town, the library has classes for adults & children, online & in person. They also sponsor many interesting trips & go to NYC theater very often. Though I don’t use the library, it still functions as a resource center but also as cultural center.

Oh yeah!!  They have plenty of things we might want to get our hands on.  I don't use ours in the same way I use to, but there's things there and book sales, should you want that.

They better be here to stay!  Can't imagine not having a library near by.  Since I retired I no longer buy books so libraries work for me.

Re: Libraries - Are they here to stay?

I moved to this location about 20 years ago and was so diappointed in the library.  It did not have that many books based on where I had come from.  I then began borrowing my books from the library on line and hadn't visited in quite some time.  I just began a weekly exercise class there and it looks as though they have really grown the selction of books.  Being there weekly I will begin picking up books again.
