@gidgetgh wrote:I use PayPal, but pretty sparingly. I have PayPal linked to two credit cards and, until recently, only used it when making EBay purchases.
Then I branched out a little and use it some on other online sites when buying things. When I go to check out, I sometimes use the “checkout with PayPal” option.
I’m on Facebook and sometimes sell items on local yard sale pages. Several times, people have asked me if they can just PayPal the funds to me. Since I only have PayPal linked to my credit card, I can’t accept funds that way.
What do some of you do? Do you use PayPal at all? Do you use it like I do, linked to a credit card and only use it to buy things from retailers? Or do you have it linked to your bank account so that people can send funds directly to your account. If you do that, have you ever had any problems?
And apparently there’s a new one now, Venmo. All I know about it is its name.
i have not read the entire thread yet, but they can pay you via paypal even if you dont have it linked to your checking account. the amount just stays in your paypal account and you can spend it as you wish. you can invoice them via paypal OR they can just send you the payment via paypal. i prefer invoicing people for items i sell online.

@AlleghenyI have many pieces of 14K and 18K jewelry that need to be sold. Where you satisfied with the prices and results of your transactions? Would you be willing to share the name with me? TIA

@NickNack- are there any fees involved for either the sender or recipient when sending funds by PayPal?
@gidgetgh I use it on ebay to pay for items and have never been charged a fee.

Thanks for responses everyone. Fortunately, my chair and ottoman sold yesterday and they paid me in cash so I didn't need to do the whole Paypal thing this time.
But I've learned a lot from your comments and I appreciate it.
Still think I'm a little skittish linking it to my checking account, but I'll give it some thought.
On smaller amounts, I'd be fine with someone paypaling me and letting it sit in an account for me to use, but for the chair and ottoman I sold I wanted the actual money.

I bank at a credit union. I just opened a separate personal checking account to use for the work sunshine fund paypal account. It has no fees and I only needed $25 to open the account.
If you have that option, that might be the way to go. This way I can get the money out of PayPal and transfer it to the work checking account and then if I had to for some reason, I could transfer the money from my work checking account to my personal checking account online.
This way the account tied to your paypal account has only $25 in it.

Hi, I would love to share with you, but it was so long ago I don't remember who the dealer was. It was a company many Q posters had mentioned using. It was reputable and I was satisfied. The only thing issue was they were supposed to pay me for some of the small gemstones in the rings which they did not. I have a few more pieces I will be selling in the future. This time I will just use a local business.

Just an fyi but if you buy something on-line from a retailer that accepts Paypal and that retailer also has a store, many times you cannot return the item to the store, you have to return it via mail. Or if the store will accept the return, you don't get cash back, you get a store credit.
I purchased a Coach from Coach.com using Paypal. I am returning the handbag and when I read the return terms, it says an on-line order can be returned to a store or it's free returns to mail it back. However, if you paid for the item via Paypal, in order to receive a refund, the item must be shipped back. If you return to a store you are given a Coach credit.
I had this happen at a few others stores too that accepted Paypal. I only have a Paypal that is linked to my bank account. I don't have a PP credit card.

i have a paypal debit card with the MC symbol. the funds come out of my paypal account (either from my money in paypal or the account linked to my paypal.) this makes it easier to return something to the store if necessary.
