A new water beetle species is named after him. DiCaprio launched an environmental foundation 1998 to help protect threatened ecosystems around the world. In 2016, He received an award for his work from the UN.

Leo's too pretty for this, he needs something beautiful named after him like a butterfly! I'm joking of course, I'm sure it's an honor to have even an ugly bug named for you. 

Saying ugly bug reminded me of a movie we watched when I was growing up called "Summer Magic" starring Haley Mills.  In it, Burl Ives sang a song called "Ugly Bug Ball." It's the story of how even an ugly bug can find love. 

I sang it with my mom when I was young and later with my daughter when she was little. It's so cute!

Regardless of any hypocrisy, his work on behalf of the environment shouldn't be outright dismissed. And I can't help but notice that it is usually those who are not exactly actively concerned about the environment, to put it mildly, that are the first and maybe the only ones to make such a dig at those like DiCaprio and Gore.
