I saw on tonight's news that the Guthrie family wanted to offer a personal reward from the start, but were advised not to by the authorities.

So many questioned why they didn't do that "with all their money".  I guess that answers that.

It's so easy to second guess, judge and question what someone should do without being aware of the facts.

I remember from the very first video Savannah and her siblings put out, she said they were willing 'to pay'.  I never doubted it.

I just have to wonder, since her mother wasn't a 'wanderer' and the family knew from the get-go that there was blood, etc., that if they dealt with the authorities only and not gone public, if the outcome would have been different.

I don't know how kidnapping/ransom cases are handled, tbh.  Through negotiators?  Quietly?  No public attention?

But it might have freaked out the perpetrator(s) that this got unbelievable national attention, not knowing who Nancy's daughter is and he/they freaked out and ducked out and no longed cared about ransom.

Just thinking out loud.  Not sure if anyone else thought this though....

I don't know what to think at this point. It's been a convoluted mess by authorities from the beginning. By now, and with the numerous resources working it to no real avail, a cold case looks probable to me.

As you would expect,  the number of calls to the tip line have jumped since the new reward offer.

Problem is that resources need to sift through all the new tips to find any reliable leads.  The reward could be valuable,  but creates extra noise and chaos also.

I read a piece in the NYT about the band member who was named as a suspect. He and his family are being relentlessly harassed.

I haven't followed closely, but my opinion hasn't changed. I think it was a robbery/home invasion gone wrong. I think Mrs. Guthrie either died or was injured in the house, the thieves panicked and left, disposing of her body somewhere in the vicinity. I think the ransom notes are from criminal minds looking to profit from the situation.

@tansy - That's the problem with mob mentality and the relentless social media coverage.

The concept of withholding judgment until the facts are known just flies out the window.

And so often the excuse is "Well, I was just going by what I was hearing".

Other than no suspect and a useless photo, no facts have been  released.

Kidnapping takes money, planning, and a ransom call. This doesn't fit. The person used weeds to block the camera, didn't even bring along a can of spray paint.

Savannah seems gaunt and unwell, certainly emotionally.

Hard to believe that she's planning on going back to work.

Hoping for her that the miracle she and her siblings are praying for come true with the new ransom amount.

I think this case is so strange that there is a chance it has some reason known to some that the public probably will never know about.  Extortion?  Revenge?

Nothing about this situation follows "normal" crime patterns, and even responses by the police, the FBI and to some exten the family are somewhat odd.
