Last night's rainfall / storm

It was a good one! We had 1.84 in of rain, lots of lightning, wind and thunder.  Ninth day of June and I have yet to turn on the sprinkler system. Significant chances of rain all week. Hopefully all this rain has put an end to our drought.

@monicakm We have had quite a bit of rain here in SE MD lately.  I don't think this area is in a drought right now. While I don't think he needs to, my husband runs the sprinklers obsessively.  We have lived in this house for 26 years and the poor fella is still trying to grow grass in clay and sand.  Sorry hon but it ain't happening. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Oh bless his heart. Having a beautiful green manicure lawn, free of weeds, is every homeowner's dream.  On my 50th birthday my family and I were eating at our favorite Mexican restaurant.  My dad pulled out my birthday gift and it was a used sprinkler head 🙄 I've never been the jealous type but I wanted a sprinkler system so bad for so long.  On the way home that night my sweet husband said he would buy me a sprinkler system for my birthday.  So thanks dad! LOL Mom taught me that instead of killing weeds, feed the grass and that would choke out the weeds.  DH planted a pallet of St Augustine in the backyard,  you can't strow seed for this grass.  within a  couple of years the entire lawn was St Augustine. The turf builder we use is Scott's Southern Turf Builder. It builds the grass and chokes out the weeds.  I think my Connecticut friend once told me that they consider St Augustine a weed. I may be wrong about that though.

Is there any kind of grass that will grow in your clay and sand?

@monicakm   Here, too. It was supposed to begin around 9PM. I had my flashlight on the table in case we lost power, but nothing happened until during the night.

I don't hear a thing when I take my hearing aids out for bed (!!!), but DH said it was a doozy....more thunder and lightening than a lot of rain.

Your rain was a welcome sight.

@monicakm   No, not without killing all the grass and bringing in truckloads of topsoil which is very pricey.  Actually, he uses Scotts grass seed and the fertilizers as that brand gives him the best lawn he's gonna get.  We have about an acre lot - large lots in this neighborhood-  so it's a lot of work, but we are outside do it yourself folks...love it.

We can't turn on our sprinklers in S Central Texas as we are in a drought and have been ordered not to. The rains we've received in the last few weeks have been wonderful. Plus our aerobic septic is a drip system. So our grass is doing well, fortunately.

My goodness! After these past 2 days of hard rain, we need a boat! Then, our backyard backs up to a lake, so, if and when it ever dries out, we will need a tractor/shredder to mow!

I just saw on one of the local news site that Lake Jacksonville as been closed until further notice.  The lake is way too full.  I cannot believe it is 68º outside right now.

Re: Last night's rainfall / storm

Wed is our lawn man's day to mow our property.  He couldn't yesterday.  If he has to wait till next Wed, it's going to be a mess Smiley Surprised  Google is showing it's raining right now but the cameras don't show any rain.  Weather Bug shows rain from now thru 1pm.  I'm not ready to complain YET.  We've been in a horrible drought for 10 years @Sapphiregal ??  Does that sound about right?  My memory is horrible but it seems that long.
