As if asking them why they did that would help matters -- or make you feel better.
Sorry that happened to you. I'd be upset, too.
Exactly. What's done is done. If they felt that they had to do it for safety reasons, they should discussed with the homeowner first. If they just got their signals crossed, it was a mistake on their part. Either way, they are at fault and either way, the homeowner isn't going to happy about it. It's one of those lose-lose situations. The tree will grow and fill out and the company should only charge her for what she asked to be done.

Trees grow - a couple seasons it will be full and lush again. The more they are trimmed the more full they grow. Be patient - it will come back - and probably have a very nice shape. When our landscapers trim our oak trees here the next season they are so beautiful because the landscapers know how to cut them so they grow into a pretty shape.

I live in a townhouse community and have a purple plum tree in my front yard. Our community has a landscaping crew that cuts the grass in front of our homes. A couple of years ago, the crew somehow decided to prune, rather butcher my tree....and without any permission from me. I contacted our HOA, who then contacted the landscaper. The pruning was not authorized. The landscaping company had to pay for a arborist to come and "repair" the butchering and treat the tree to avoid disease. I won't let anyone other than an arborist prune my tree.

After building a house and pole barn 10 years ago, with a couple of "misunderstandings," we have made it a point to have one of us on site for any project that may get goofed up.

I’m glad you posted this. A few years ago, an arborist severely pruned a large backyard tree. That tree has never looked the same. He cut off parts of many lower branches which are still bare. I didn’t watch at the time because I felt an arborist would know what he was doing. Now I know better.
The top is full but the tree looks top-heavy to me. I’m having another arborist evaluate it to see if it’s still healthy.

Of course, I didn't receive a phone call today from the owner. I would have been surprised if she had called. When the invoice comes I will see how much they've charged me. They did do other yard work but if it's way over what they normally charge I will be calling her.
