Lancaster PA area suggestions?

I'm going to be up in PA soon and am going to go to the Lancaster area.  I've been before, including two years ago, but didn't get to spend much time there on my last trip.  Have more time this time.

I know about Kitchen Kettle Village and plan to go back there and I know where the QVC outlet is and will be stopping there (of course!).

Any other suggestions?  As we head from there back to Atlanta, we're going to go to Gettysburg.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Just went there this spring.  If you like to eat,(who doesn't), go to The Shady Maple.  Fantastic buffet.

Re: Lancaster PA area suggestions?

I personally would spend more time in Gettysburg, than Lancaster.

Kitchen Kettle can be done in a couple of hours, and quite honestly, other than driving around looking at the beautiful farmlands, I find little else to do there.  There are antiques, quilts, The Sights and Sound Theater-- but I would rather go to Gettysburg and do a personally guided tour.

I HIGHLY recommend the personally guided tour, they tourguides are very skilled and personable.  They are fonts of knowledge.  They drive your car, and take you to all the monuments, battle areas-- and answer whatever you ask.  This is great because it is just your party and the guide, not a big group.

I can tell you more about Gettysburg, if you wish.

@Marianne1 - Thanks for taking time to post this helpful information.  I could take a day trip to Gettysburg but I would not know what to do once I got there.

There is also a personal guided tour of Gettysburg on horseback for small groups. I believe that requires a reservation in advance. We had friends that did this a few months ago a raves about it.

There are also outlets in Gettysburg, not as good as Lancaster though

@Marianne1- thanks for the info. I've been to Gettysburg before, when I was a child and later with my husband. We did the 2-3 hour bus tour there, with the headphones.  We loved that.

We don't have any rush to get back home so we can take our time when we're on the area. I liked Kitchen Kettle Village and bought a quilt there two years ago, but we literally had about 30 minutes to spend there so I wanted to go back, take our time, wander around, have lunch, go to the outlets and then head toward Gettysburg, whenever that is.

If you're a pet lover, one of the biggest pet stores in the country is in Lancaster. It's "That Pet Place." They have pretty much everything you could ask for in the way of pet supplies you can check out their website for directions.
