Right. You know it seems it's not just the clothes either but the way they're made up to look ashen and severe.

I agree. Hair pulled back and very little eye makeup or cheek color. I think in those days aristocrats did not wear much makeup. They felt it was for stage people and harlots. There was an episode where Ivy put on rouge and was made to take it off. I think the costumes were wonderful, especially the lace work. Very expensive workmanship.
