They are adding 600 new jobs ,at a factory in lewiston maine.We lived there for 4 years,at that time there were dexter shoes that were made there,good news for factory workers.

LL Bean is one of those companies who have spectacular customer service supported by spectacular products. If you purchase a paid of the boots that have seen years of use and have somewhat worn out, LL Bean will re sole them at no cost to you. My son had a pair in his 20's which he sent back twice for spring time renewal. I sort of got sick of watching him shlep around every winter in those boots.

Yup, I had a pair of Bean boots ( not THE boot of story and song) that after years of use where they held up very well, in one winter they disineigrated. I think it had something to do with all the snow melt they used that year. well, I took them to Beans and they looked at the poor "soles". No one could identify the style save for the L.L. BEAN stamped on them. Since they couldn't identify the shoe they gave me a refund the amount of which I put towards the purchase of a new pair of Bean boots. For me they are not a fashion statement but equipment to get through the cold and snowy northeast winters.

LOOOOOVE LL.Bean!

Years ago I bought a pair of knee-high fur-lined boots. The fur bled black dye on my calves. So I called LL.Bean and told them about it. I didn't want new boots, I didn't want to send the boots back, I just wanted to warn them about the dye in the fur. Product managers called me three times begging me to send them the boots so they could examine them. I kept saying nope, I like them, they fit, they're comfy, I'm not giving these up, I just wanted to warn you. That was ten years ago and I'm still wearin' those boots. They've gotten me through many northern winters in warm comfort.

But can you imagine any other retailer being so persistent in tracking down a flaw in product?
