naturalfan-
you must be really intuitive to know that without actually meeting someone or knowing their background...
Occasional Rain- I have a LOT of friends and family who feel the same... I don't care HOW one chooses to donate but don't fault others for taking a different path...
Kathy- that is a great idea.. Budgeting into expenses..

Same here ..... it's MY money and I get to decide where I donate .... don't even try to bamboozle me into donating with a ""challenge"" ......

Don't really know about being intuitive but I can certainly see that some can put a negative spin on anything and everything.

My younger sister told me last night that the Ice bucket challenge was started in order to donate to ANY charity so I looked it up...This is what I found...

THIS comment suits the O/P of thread...
The ice bucket challenge follows these antecedents but adds a new and troubling twist. Charities have always been comfortable using guilt as a motivator — children and puppies in danger seem to work especially well. But the challenge crosses a line. Those issuing challenges are not only telling others what cause to support but also saying that if they don’t, they must suffer a penalty. Threats to compel giving? It seems the opposite of what it really means to be charitable.
Thank you Melissa. I've been called heartless, insensitive, and other unflattering things for my views on this ice bucket challenge and it's nice to know there are others who feel the same.
Me personally, I don't know you and I don't think you're heartless, but I still don't see anyone goading, bullying or taunting Lisa Robertson. Me personally, I don't think the Ice Bucket challenge is bad, silly or anything like that, so long as it's done carefully. It's just for fun and the money donated goes to a good cause. So far, I haven't heard of anyone being threatened or guilt-tripped into doing this. And since it's still summer and hot in many places, dumping ice water on one's self probably feels good. I'm also going to assume that people who have ALS probably like watching these "silly" videos, as it lifts their spirits a bit. No offense or anything, but I think many on this board just take many things way too seriously much of the time. Just my opinion. Not trying to offend anyone.
If Lisa wants to do the ice bucket challenge, she probably will if she feels like it. If not, than not. But no where on this thread did I see anyone taunting or bullying of Lisa. I actually think that Lisa Robertson's a good person, but so many of her fans flip out so much that it makes Lisa look bad.

Whether you dump the bucket or not, you are supposed to make a donation. Otherwise, it doesn't make any sense and how would any money get raised if everyone took the challenge.
It's supposed to be $100.00 if you don't take the challenge and $10.00 if you do take the challenge. It's supposed to be done within 24 hours of one being challenged.
I was challenged by someone and chose not to do it. I was actually out of town when someone told me I had been called out to do it.
I have other charities that are near and dear to my heart to which I donate.
