good for you.  i think thatyou would need at least 1 year on hand if anything happened.

Back in our working lives we tried to keep at least a few months income in savings, often did not make it.  I'll tell you a little horror story.  When DH retired there was a problem with his pension.  There was a woman at the local union office who was embezzeling and the upshot was she didn't process retirement applications and it took 7 months to get pension started.  Without that savings built up we would have been living on credit cards.
