Kindle - Nook sharing

I have a Kindle app on my smartphone. I want to get a full sized device.

I went to B&N the other day and looked at the various Nook models.

Can I transfer my Kindle books over to the Nook? Or will I have to re-purchase them?

I am thinking of waiting for the new Kindle model that is rumored to be coming out this Fall.
