Re: Kids say the darndest things !

[ Edited ]

Last year when my nephew was three, my brother in law had a habit of teasing him by calling him by his brother's name.

My brother in law was standing next to the island (he's about 6ft tall) so my nephew got up on the stool, stood up (they were eye to eye)  and said Uncle --- I have something to say. I do not appreciate your jokes, they are not funny so please stop. My brother in law apologized and it stopped right there and then.

@Wsmomwrote: will next school year be the first time he and his class have been in an actual classroom with classmates? I'm not sure how virtual learning went. Was it for the entire school day like a regular classroom and they were basically in a virtual class vs. a standard classroom?

My grandson went to in school class for preschool  but with the  pandemic his parents chose to put him in virtual kindergarten and  1st grade. He will return to in class learning for the 2 nd grade. Class was for the entire day and the class was structured so the kids could be grouped and placed in a virtual room for several times a day just to chit chat and show their toys. The cirriculum was the same as in school learning. I must say he had a awesome and patient teacher with a class of 20 children on zoom ! Woman LOL

@Goodie2shoes  I am amazed and impressed kids that age could sit in front of the computer for the length of a school day!  Were they zooming with their in-class schoolmates or was it strictly the kids who were at home?

All of the children are on zoom from home. But they are not always under control from home unfortunately. I have seen children jumping up and down on a sofa while class is in session, a few have been seen lying in bed during the class. I have no idea where the adult was !  I just wish the children well and hope they are all moving on to the 2nd grade. I'm glad I could be there for my grandson and he's moving on to in school learning next yr, 2nd grade !

Re: Kids say the darndest things !

@Goodie2shoes, unfortunately most people don't have an extra adult to sit by a kid's side all day and be a teacher's aide.

The reality is many kids that age would be moving around even if they were in a classroom.

That will be a fun experience for your grandson to be back at school with his friends...and to be able to play with them in person.  Maybe you will be able to be a classroom helper so you can still stay a part of his school.

Re: Kids say the darndest things !

Kindergarten and first grade are such important years for children.  They learn and grow in so many ways in that time.

To have both years "virtual," they will come into second grade way behind where they should be.  People would be amazed what is taught in second grade.  I would think most of that year will be taken up getting the children caught up.

Where I am, the elementary schools my grandchildren attended were thrilled have grandmothers and grandfathers volunteer to come to the classroom and help.  I did it and loved every minute of it.

I am looking forward to my grandson's high school class graduating in a few weeks as I began helping those children in elementary school and watched them grow up.
