These kids are going to be blind as bats and, while we're at it, their thumbs will be toast.

Beyond that, and back to my original point, though, is that they become so self-absorbed and developmentally immature that I feel great concern.

All of this is so true. I've been on first dates with guys who are looking at the phones. I got up from the table at a restaurant last time and told the guy he was rude and I left. Luckily, I had come in my own car.

It's too much when the device is being used to the exclusion of everything else but I think if it helps a parent to grocery shop or entertain their child while they wait for the car to be repaired then use it.

Most kids that are in school are interacting and socializing for 4 to 6 hours daily. So if they use an ipad at home I don't see much difference than watching cartoons during the afternoon.

Now if there is no conversation in the home, or no reading, playing board games etc and only interaction on an ipad is taking place then those parents have other issues besides letting their kids use electronics. As for bad manners they aren't a result of technology use- but a result of non-parenting.
