You don't have to use the prepackaged plastic cups. Instead put loose tea in the resuable

k cup. Personally I like the flavor of either the prepackaged k cups or loose tea over a tea bag which infuses the taste of the paper into the brewed cup of tea. I bought my keurig through another source, it was much cheaper than any on QVC, and I had rewards type coupons to cover some of the price and it has been well worth it. Quite convenient and everyone can have what they want without any fuss or mess.

My use of "cult" perhaps is too casual, I well remember the Jonestown tragedy. I also use the word "cult" for Scientology and I probably shouldn't do that either. Anyway, my issue with some of the "cult" items, WEN and Keurig included, is the expense. Personally I use Wen and blow a lot of money on skin care and cosmetics. Nothing charged, our bills are paid. I know what my neighbors pays for K cups because he tells us. He is a financial disaster and almost lost his house due to unpaid taxes. He's also a hoarder of shopping channel stuff. When I read on the board that posters overdraw their bank account because of a delayed credit on a defective Keurig or gallon of Wen or whatever, I feel they are swayed by this "cult" mentality. I wish I could come up with another word.

I have a Keurig and prefer making my tea with a teabag in the cup; the K-cup tea is much stronger; in fact, I made tea with the K-cup for a friend of mine and she watered it down because it was too strong.

It's like tap water and bottled water. Could be about price or taste or convenience. I don't drink enough tea to buy a box for my keurig, but if I did I would. I keep a small box of decaffeinated bags in the closet for when I'm sick.

Has anyone looked inside a tea k-cup.? Is it tea leaves or is it instant tea?

I would say the taste is better with brewed tea over a teabag. I don't use a Keurig but get brewed tea at 7-11 and there is no comparison, brewed has so much more flavor than a tea bag.

Depends on the tea--and tea bags are really "brewed" as well. To me the Keurig tea isn't really brewed because the tea doesn't spend much time in contact with the water. Really good tea in a bag can be better than "dustings" sold in a tea bag. Harney Tea has those little cloth "sachet" bags that are VERY good. You can't taste the bag at all. And it depends on the way any tea is brewed as well as the quality of the tea to begin with.

I am very happy with those Harney sachets because I can get a very good cup without the fuss and mess of leaves at work or when I'm in a hurry.

That is what I don't like about tea bags, dust, floaters, etc my tea. I have a tea ball and some loose leaf tea.

I did just get my first Keurig a couple of weeks ago, and I do like it. It came with 48 K cups, plus a coupon for buy 2 boxes get 2 free from Keurig. When I ordered those, I also ordered a small size (5 Kcups) of my favorite black tea, but I haven't tried it yet.

I can always put my loose leaf tea or my own coffee grounds into the My Kcup.

I love coffee and tea, caffeinated and decaf, and I have several ways I make both. I don't currently have a Keurig, b/c I didn't like the coffee all that much, but your discussion made me realize how good it is to have choices! I have an electric filter pot, a french press, and a pour over filter system for coffee, and I use them all at different times. So I feel very lucky and happy!

I too can use the hot water for my tea but at times when my arther acts up and I can't seems to fumble with stuff, I place the k cup in and get a good cup of tea fast.

Here's one reason I use it. I had 5 people over for dinner and, at the end of the meal, I very much enjoyed being able to provide, within literally a couple of minutes exactly what my friends wanted:

Caffeinated Coffee for the one driving 60 miles to get home,

Chai Tea for the one who loves that,

Decaf Coffee for those who lived close, &

Iced Decaf Tea for myself.

Guess what, everyone was happy with their selections. I am not a member of a Keurig "cult" as some mention, I use coupons, and buy at discounted rates for large quantities of coffee and tea at big box stores. In addition I often use loose teas in my k-cup and I don't spend any money on soft drinks, beer, flavored water, or energy drinks (talk about expensive think of what those things cost). Therefore, I am not spending an inordinate amount of money on drinks and I am able to pay all my own bills.

Have you Keurig ladies done a comparison on the cost of using regular coffee ( or the fancy ones you buy by the pound at the grocery store ) and using the K cups? Some of you are saying you throw away coffee, so it saves you money to use the K cups...but I think the cost of a pot of coffee you make yourself even in the fancier stuff, would still be much less than using the K cups. So, I am not sure you are saving anything at all, and perhaps even if you threw out 1/2 a pot of coffee, you still would be saving money. Just wondering.... I know the K cups are fun, and easy, but if you figure out how much it is actually costing you to buy them, you might be surprised.

Also, I know the K cups cost less than buying coffee out, but comparing to how much you spend making your own ( so simple and fast to do ) it does cost you more. We make a full 10 cup pot in 8 minutes. You can make less if you want. I think sometimes we don't really add up the cost over a year very often to see how much the added cost really is. Over time, it can be quite significant. Just a thought....
