There's always been a fair amount of attention to the way Charles dresses. Publications like Gentleman's Quarterly, WSJ, they've all taken note. Whatever your "take" on him, as a person, they agree that he dresses in a way that suits him. At the same time, he has been a huge and vocal booster of the British fashion, menswear and textile industries.
Like his sister Princess Anne, he's looked good in casual sportswear, like Charles and Anne do in these open yellow button-downs in their youth:
To me, Anne, athlete and fanatic horsewoman that she is, has often seemed more comfortable when dressing down, than in, say, more formal tailored suits, where she can sometimes come off a bit severe, esp. with some of the hats she favors.
But Charles, seems sartorially comfortable and natty across the board:
Vests are so cozy and dashing.
He has a huge appreciation for the beautiful fabrics used in fine British menswear, and of course his closet of Turnbull and Asser shirts is well stocked.
One article said that he's found the secret to wearing suits well-- wear them like you would your p.j.'s. In other words, don't be cowed! Fred Astaire knew that secret.
That legendary old-school London tailoring and always a dapper pocket square.
This under-the-umbrella combo has such flair:
Bundled up and smart.
A dove gray pinstripe is good with his coloring.
You might need to enlarge this one to get the full effect, but I'm wowed by the tiny red stripe in the tattarsal of his jacket, picking up on the red in his kilt and knee socks. Note the traditional tiny knife (I like to think, dagger) tucked in the top of his sock.
Swank.... but easy. At least, he's making it look that way.
When it comes to clothing at least, he's a traditionalist with a really good eye, and he wears and wears his stuff. One coat he has worn across four decades. And Town & Country magazine has asserted that he's worn only two coats since the 1980's.
I love traditional menswear, going back to the Thirties, and of course, Fred Astaire is everyone's zenith of that perfected, meticulous but carefree look.
As Fred famously said, I'm paraphrasing-- "You've got to show your clothes who's boss." He used to throw his exquisite suits against the wall to get the natural, lived-in look he wanted.

What a great post on men's fashion, Oznell, King Charles looks so dashing in all the photos. I love the picture of Charles and Anne, they look so happy. I appreciate the classy elegance of Charle's wardrobe and you can sense he takes pride in how he dresses. His tan coat and pin stripe suit stand out!!!! As far as fashion is concerned , King Charles is royalty!

@Oznell Great post. I really enjoyed it. Charles is for sure a natty dresser. I can see him having a coat for decades. When you buy super high quality fabrics, they do last incredibly long. He always looks great in a kilt. Most men do IMO.![]()

@Oznell , Have you seen the new portrait released from the palace, taken on the eve of the Queens funeral. Comments on the photo suggest that he might be giving up his double breasted suits.

I have noticed that his suits are really gorgeous and of course he can get the very best custom made ones! As he should. Part of being King is appearances.
