@Desertdi ...I don'think I will ever forget the 94 quake.  I lived very close to the epicenter and if I close my eyes I can picture it from beginning to end.  Fortunately though the only thing I lost were all of my china wine glasses and one TV set.  All my lamps in the living room were still upright along with items on top of the bookcases.   The den was fine except for that TV set.  Thank goodness all of the kitchen cabinets, except where the wine glasses were, stayed intact.

My bedroom was a disaster.  The triple dresser tipped over and landed at the foot of my bed along with the huge mirror that was on the wall.  The two nightstands tipped over and the one that was next to my side of the bed had a flashlight in it, so I got on the floor and felt around until I found it.  Earthquakes were the one thing about CA that made me uncomfortable, to say the least.

@Lindsays Grandma    I, too, remember it vividly.    I was in Santa Monica.   According to the local paper (Evening Outlook which printed that afternoon), the tremors "multiplied" as they traveled thru the base of the Santa Monica Mtns.

I had a lot of damage.....lost everything breakable.....legs broke off furniture, tile down in kitchen and bathroom.    Broken gas main, so no heat, stove, or hot water for weeks.    Doorways "off square"......so I couldn't even lock the front door.     Enormous cracks in the walls.......BUT......MY CAR WAS NOT DAMAGED.....NOT A  SCRATCH.     Thank God for small favors!    di

Re: KHALIL GIBRAN SAYINGS

[ Edited ]

My signature saying is a Khalil Gibran quote!😁

I've had the book "The Prophet" since the early 1970"s.

@Desertdi Considering how close I was to the epicenter and you being in Santa Monica it's hard to believe the comparison of damage.  I had purchased the condo I was in and all I can say is that it must have been built like a fortress, I was very lucky.   When I got the job at Warner Bros in Burbank I was living in my 2 story townhouse which I loved for 14 years, but I finally sold it and bought the condo in Encino, the drive was a lot shorter.  That was another one of my 'one door closes and another one opens' experiences in my life.  I could write a book.    I can imagine between the damage and loss of property you experienced was devastating, sorry you had to go through all that.

@Lindsays Grandma  I read each of these though- provoking quotes several times, and struggled to find a favorite, as one is almost as powerful as the next.😊

I found myself intently reading 6, 7, 9, and 10. They had the greatest impact on me, and brought me the most joy while reading them.Thank you for yet another WONDERFUL collection of soul stirring quotes!!!😁❤

Love and doubt have never been on speaking terms.

Ever has it been that love knows not its own depth until the hours of separation.

2.   Exaggeration is truth that has lost its temper.

3.   We are all like the bright moon, we still have our dark side.

4.   We choose our joys and sorrows long before we experience them.

5.   Trust in dreams, for in them is the hidden gate to eternity.

6.   You may forget with whom you laughed, but you will never forget with whom you wept.

7.   Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair, but manifestations of strength and resolutions.

8.   Out of suffering have emerged the strong souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.

9.   The smallest act of kindness is worth the greatest

intention.

10.   If you focus on the hurt, you will continue to suffer.  If you focus on the lesson, you will continue to grow.

11.   Let there be space in your togetherness.

12.   Marriage is like a golden ring in a chain, whose beginning is like a glass and whose ending is eternity.

13.   No human relation gives one possession in another - every two souls are absolutely different.  In friendship or in love, the two side by side raise hands together to find what one cannot reach alone.

I was introduced to the works of Khalil Gibran in the 50's and 60's and had the entire collection of his books.  Not having that collection any longer saddens me, but as we all know, we cannot keep all of our possessions our entire life.

@Lindsays Grandma You have them in your mind, and in your heart, where you will ALWAYS "keep" them.😊❤

@Desertdi ...Okay, let me get this straight.  You lived in Santa Monica and worked in Hollywood, right?  Once I drove out of the San Fernando Valley I didn't know where I was.  Yes, I worked in Burbank but didn't live there so I didn't get to know the area.  Always had a terrible sense of direction, it's a wonder I never had to call the police because I didn't know where I was, thank God.  I drove the surface streets from Encino to Burbank, way too much traffic on the freeway, got there in 45 minutes.  Correction, I drove to Ventura County and Ojai to visit friends, going in that direction was fine.

@Lindsays Grandma     You know what?    It's the SAME here!!!     My cousin, who lives in Florida, has paternal cousins from Wisconsin, who "winter" in Mesa.....so my cuz says to me "it's right nearby to you".     And I had to tell her that there's a mountain range in between........     (I'm way up in northeast PHX at the edge of civilization)!

@Desertdi ..I was in Phoenix once, when Lindsay was a tot.  We went to the theater to see some children's group who were appearing there.  I am going to have to google the map to see where the edge of civilization in Phoenix is where you live. Woman Happy
