I think it does have a lot to do with looks including race. Yeah, I said it. Kate is worshipped on this board (it's weird), and Meghan is treated as if she doesn't deserve to be a part of the royal family. Anyone who thinks the world is colorblind and that having a POC as a royal in the British monarchy doesn't factor into a lot of people's prejudices, is in denial. The whole idea behind "royal" bloodlines is racist at its root.

@JJsMom  I find it hard to believe that those who don't particularly care for Meghan are racist.  Maybe a very small percentage but certainly not the majority.

@Johnnyeager  I hope you don't really believe what you said about "I adore Kate" posts are a back handed way to get to Meghan.   Again you are disparaging Kate where there was no reason to do that.  In the future please do not take my words on my posts and turn them around to what you believe I was actually saying.  Thank you.

Even the thread title is in ALL CAPS lol

Like I said ... weird

@JJsMom   Please note that all of my thread titles are in CAPS and if you check you will find many others are as well.  It really doesn't indicate anything one way or the other.

I’ll save my disdain for Andrew.

Anything that Kate, William, Meghan, and Harry have done, been accused of, or projected to do based on someone’s theories, all seem ridiculously inconsequential by comparison.

Odd how it's so unacceptable in this case, but when a positive, pleasant Meghan thread is destroyed it's quite fine.

I'd suggest that when Meghan threads go sour it isn't because comparisons to Kate crop up... Those threads go sour all on their own and it has nothing to do with Kate... Kate is rarely even mentioned on those threads and there really was no compelling reason to bring Meghan into this one, other than to stir the pot...

Clearly, the popular narrative, in some corners anyway. To my mind, pure balderdash. There are many reasons one might like or dislike Kate and there are many reasons one might like or dislike Meghan. While it's clear some here are defensive on Meghan's behalf because of this singular factor, it should be equally as clear, but isn't, that not everyone who is not her champion bases their opinion on that same singular factor.

Katie may be "getting off lightly" as you put it (not me) because she has really not made a misstep as a royal in years, since her early days, and even then nothing very serious nor challenging to the monarchy.  And comments about Kate are not intended as slams against MM  ;east mine aren't.

I thought this quote (by "British royal expert William Hanson" -- no idea who he is!) was interesting:

Catherine made many mistakes when she was first engaged and married to Prince William, as Meghan is now. Both are very different and both contribute to the royal family and the wider cause," he says, adding, "No one person is bigger than the institution, however. Catherine understands this as she is a native Brit, and so grew up with a greater consciousness of how the British royal family do things.

To be completely honest, I didn't realize that Kate and Will had been criticized in the past for their work ethic, among other things. I truly thought they were beloved by all from the start, but that is not the case.

My recollection is that they might have stepped in it occasionally but then quickly stepped up. They were also far younger then than the other ducal duo are now and while they didn't assume as many royal duties as perhaps it was thought they ought to, as I recall, when first married, William was still in the military and the two of them were moving around a good bit because of it... Then the children came along and things seemed to settle down...

You know, I honestly didn't remember. Much of the criticism was aimed at how few royal events they did. They were called lazy, and there were lots of stories about how the Queen was not pleased with them. They were criticized for their lavish lifestyle, the amount of vacation they took, and the money spent renovating their residences. There were still articles as late as a few years ago (after they had children) criticizing them for their lack of work ethic and claiming that William used his royal responsibilities to claim that he couldn't do all of his shifts in his job as an air ambulance pilot, then used his 20 hour a week job to claim that he couldn't do many royal events. So it has not all been smooth sailing for them either.

I think Kate is a lovely young lady that has grown in her role.  But  I do remember many headlines critizing both William and Kate early on.  I don't think I ever read a full article because I just don't take the time to read those kind of articles,  but the headlines said enough.  Just as @jonbon said, many of those headlines were critical of the couple not doing enough work for the royal family and money being spent to rennovate their residences.  So they did take their knocks early on.

I like Meghan as well.  In fact, I feel sorry for any female marrying into such as prominent role in the royal family like Kate and Meghan did.  I just don't think that life is all that some crack it up to be.  It has to be difficult to try and be perfect 100% of the time or see yourself as the headline in the paper the next day if you are not by someone's standard.

Kate appears to have turned out to be quite a poised young royal that has handled the pressure better than I would.  lol

I have a good friend that lives in England and she called me the morning that William and Kate were married.  We had a good time talking and watching coverage up until the time the wedding started.  She was really excited.  It was fun drinking coffee and talking with her as we prepared to watch the oldest son of Diana and Charles wed.
