This is so funny......  

Really, they can be very destructive.  We had a large 2 story house that was brick halfway up in the front and the rest of the house was cedar siding.  A woodpecker decided he liked the knots in the siding and kept pecking them out.  Then the little house sparrows started to make their nests in the holes.  We found several babies on the ground beneath the place where their nests were.  Had the off duty firemen come and take care of the places where the knots were missing.  They did a great job.

That is one impressive woodpecker, however, I know what you mean about them being distructive.

We also have a cedar house and shed that they like too much.  I have one that is sure persistent or just plain stupid.  I keep chasing him away and he keeps coming back.  What aggrevates me is that he has plenty of trees here.   Come spring we have to repair the damage he has done.  One year we had to replace some of the cedar boards entirely.
