Re: Just received an odd call from CVS Pharmacy.

[ Edited ]

Insurance companies are really becoming a pain. My doctor changed a med I take from the immediate release 3x a day to one XL which would last 24 hours. She did this because it was difficult to take the third pill at the time I needed it (midnight). This med is very specific about timing.

Anyway, the insurance company refused to pay for it because I still had 5 of the immediate release pills left. I told the pharmacist on Friday that I needed it, because that means I will only be able to take 2 of the pills today (Sunday).

He said that the insurance company said they won't pay for any more pills until February 8. I'm going to call my doctor first thing in the morning...or I will have to be off the med for 2 days. The pharmacist said I could pay cash for the pills I need for Monday and Tuesday...$30+ dollars. Crazy!

Re: Just received an odd call from CVS Pharmacy.

I just received an automated phone call from CVS Caremark stating that my Enbrel script could not be filled because of my insurance denial.  When I contacted them and told them that I;ve had the same insurance since 1998 and have been taking enbrel for 3 years they looked into it and found it was just a hold because I receive a 3 month supply and they corrected the issue and shipped my medication.

My prescription plan (Caremark-part of CVS) called my doctor to ask if my medication could be changed from 5mg twice a day to 10mg once a day.  I believe it is a cost saving issue.

It bugged me, because I had read it was better to have the split dosage than a single one.

But, I would just expect more of this as health care gets less personal.

@hyacinth003  You can cut the pills in half and still be able to take them twice a day since the mgs were raised.  You can buy the pill splitter at any pharmacy or probably elsewerhe too.

Our pharmacy Smiths (Kroger) informed us that effective Jan 1st our insurance co is only paying for 15 days of one of my husband's meds instead of 30.  The botttle that they filled only contained 15.   He is supposed to take 1 a day.  I told them to fill it for 30 days and I'd pay for 15.  They did so but had to have separate bottles and transactions.

Re: CVS, my husband had a heart attack on New Year's Eve was admitted to the ER that night, had a stent placed and was discharged Sunday New Year's Day.   I was told by his team that I needed to get his heart medication perscriptions (four)  filled that day and that he absolutely could not skip any.  Smiths pharmacy was closed for the holiday and was normally open on Sunday.  Sam's Club pharmacy is never open on a Sunday. We had never used CVS but they were open and in our network.  I no longer view Smiths and Sam's Club as real pharmacies due to being unavailable.

Talk to the manager. No one else. It happened to me and it was taken care of.

Re: Just received an odd call from CVS Pharmacy.

I know my insurance will now only cover my eye drops for 22 days out of 30. That is crazy but one bottle oniy contains a 22 day supply according to the drug company.

There are many standard drugs that they do not cover. I have found the app DrugRX. It looks at your prescription and checks the prices at your local pharmacies. They tell you what pharmacy is cheapest and you can get a coupon. It may surprise you that places like Walmart are not the cheapest. Some pharmacies charge more than double for the same prescription.

@mistyada Great point. I gave purchased 90 pills at a time using no insurance much cheaper than my 3 copays would have been. It's crazy. We really should shop around. The problem is when you are sick, the last thing you feel like doing is going through all that!

I actually had a pharmacist refuse to fill a prescription for my five year old son. She had a "conscientious objection."  I wanted to punch her in the conscientious nose.

@PurpleBunny

You're kidding!!!  I would talk to her supervisor and see to it that she was fired!!!

It was ten years ago, and after that I swore off CVS. I only just started using their pharmacy again and that's only because Walgreens temporarily dropped our insurance.

That is one of the reason I use Walgreen's.  Open 24/7...less than three minutes away from my home.  Have had the same pharmacist for over 15 years.
