Just passing this along for safety sake

I received a text msg today supposedly from the IRS but it was from a hotmail address. The msg advised I might be eligible for a $1400 payment and requested personal and bank acct info for the deposit. SCAM !!! I'm just passing it along, be safe ! Anyone else get that msg ?

@Goodie2shoes No. But I'm smarter than the scammers. I don't fall for that junk, most of which goes directly to my spam folder anyway.

Never got that one but I did get a message letting me know that the local sherif will be coming by to arrest me since I owe the IRS $$$ if I don't pay up by a certain date.

I learned a long time ago from an Amazon representative to always check the sender's address. We weren't even shopping at Amazon at the time, but we had Prime for TV and college textbooks.

I got something this afternoon, and yesterday, from suspicious addresses. The best is when we get something from a bank saying they're closing our account, and we have nothing to do with the particular bank!

I just delete. Amazon used to request you forward the email to their "phishing department." I did a few times, but I don't any longer.

I repeatedly get a msg "from my bank" wanting to know the ss# of the person who gave me "all that money" or the bank will confiscate it.

The only deposits in that particular account ARE from the SSA.

I block every email, text, and phone number for such scams. It's taken what seems like forever but the volume is slowly decreasing.

I had the Norton VPN last year and hated it. It didn't help with anything and blocked me from accessing sites I use all the time. I did not renew it.

Earlier this month, I installed Malwarebytes and its VPN. I have seen a noticeable decrease is scams. I also set up daily scans for viruses, trackings, etc.
