There is a huge difference between when an established member accidentally brings up an old thread, an when a "BRAND NEW MEMBER " does it.

When someone is "brand new", it reeks of what a troll would do.

IMO it could be either a clueless newbie who attempts to use the forum’s ghastly inefficient Search feature, or a troll. It’s often trolls, especially when it’s multiples by the same “new” poster.

But I have seen genuine new posters doing it on a single thread or two, and then apologizing for not realizing. Some internet forums prefer that you post in existing threads on a topic, and a new poster wouldn’t know that isn’t the case here.

I know that I personally recognize trolling when I see it, 95% of the time (there’s always that 5% you can’t be sure of or get wrong). I give the moderators credit for being able to see a pattern once someone reports it. If a moderator deletes multiple trolled/bumped old posts, they’re onto that poster’s “work.”

The old posts being bumped don’t bother me as much as the “brand new” posters who make a first post by starting a new thread solely to b***h about something or someone. There are often veritable flurries of “new posters” who pop up like clockwork on weekends to b***h and moan and trash. Then they disappear and a totally new (yeahright) group appears in a couple of weeks, only to disappear, and...

How does a 2-3 year thread get started again? I'm just wondering.

Hi

One time I saw an old thread where a moderator had deleted a comment because it contained a link with an ad which resurrected the entire old thread....I dont know why she didnt delete the whole thing since it was so old..........??????

And there is a wierd one in Q Talk when it was back in 2015 and Carolyn Gracie had her cancer surgery.......and someone went in there recently asking when is Carolyn coming back.....and someone wrote this is an old thread and Carolyn has been back for 2 years now....then the person said I was talking about Carolyn Pollack (the jewelry designer).........so why would they put that on an old thread about Carolyn GRACIE.and the thread title was Carolyn Gracie too...didnt even make sense... Maybe @PlaidPants2 is right and this is just a bunch of trolls.....Woman Frustrated....

Re: Just observation - why are so many VERY OLD threads...

I almost resurrected one from 2012 (I think) yesterday. I was looking for an oven fried chicken recipe and a poster had commented on her mom's pork chops. I responded and then notice how old the thread was and deleted it. So it could be just an accident.

Re: Just observation - why are so many VERY OLD threads...

I've posted this before but there is also some glitch that happens periodically where old posts are being brought up to the first page with no one having posted on them in years.

I made a comment on one not realizing the thread was years old and mine was the first comment made in a couple of years so it looked like I pulled up that super old thread to comment on it but that's not what happened.

I assume posts on the first page of the forum are current.  If you don't pay attention, that's not always the case.

I think any thread over a year old should be removed for good.

I automatically write them off as trolls, who have nothing better to do than to stir up trouble.

I suppose that they get some sort of twisted pleasure out of doing it.

In my ever so humble opinion, I think that the mods should lock a thread if it has been a month with no activity on it.

@Plaid Pants2

I agree I think after a certain period of time the old threads should automatically be removed electronically.

I remember when QVC was revamping the Forum and sent out numerous surveys and posted polls on the Forum and one of them was to get rid of old threads.  But there were some threads that were old favorites and were still kept alive because they included sweet comments from posters who had passed away....and they wanted the sentimental ones to remain and just continue the existing thread regardless of age. ....However, since it wouldnt have been cost effective to remove old threads and make an exception for the sentmental threads so QVC decided it was better to leave the old threads and let them decline in chronological order naturally based on the age unless they received a recent comment..........

Re: Just observation - why are so many VERY OLD threads...

@Starpolisher and @Spurt - it could be either, any time. I use my gut instinct, based on the content of the post, and “tone.” I basically know which it is, AFAIC. I think it is deliberate trolling more often than by accident, and I think it’s obvious which it is with any given incident.

Some trolling is taken care of by moderators, but much is not - which is one reason threads like this are even started/necessary.

I think bottom line - the software isn’t (and isn’t going to be) set for auto delete of old threads, and the moderators have largely been instructed by QVC to leave “potential” trolls alone. I don’t blame them, I think their hands have been tied.

Re: Just observation - why are so many VERY OLD threads...

I’ve seen old threads bumped.   The mods remove the last post but leave the thread.   People come along thinking it’s a new thread and post on it.   If a new poster bumps an old thread, the mods should just remove the thread.

@Moonchilde

They must have some sort of software program in place because remember that Christmas Eve when QVC and most of QVC's IT people took off to enjoy the holidays and when everyone came back after Christmas they found that QVC had experienced the ATTACK OF THE TROLLS and some person or group invaded the Forum and resurrected old threads with obscenities.......and I think QVC had to remove them all manually, but someone said QVC then put something in place to prevent something like that from happening again....

It could be that they have some sort of security but it only stops mass attacks but not individual random ones.........

Re: Just observation - why are so many VERY OLD threads...

There is a thread about halfway down this page about new show hosts and a "newbie" is on it and appears to be having a conversation with herself.
