Ok, has the original post been edited or changed, because I don't see where the OP said anything about a host saying to get one for the gift closet.

And if someone wants to spend that kind of money on a dryer (who isn't making money using it in their business) have at it. Just expect to get some snide remarks. With all the need in the world you are going to encounter many who will think spending money in this manner is misguided and won't hesitate to say so (and I'm not saying that is what OP was doing).

If I found $400 laying on the ground I would not spend it on a Dyson hair dryer. Besides, I always let my hair air dry and don't use one.
