Hoping for nice weather. Will grill early and then retreat to my bedroom with my pups. Not their favorite day.

@haddon9

Small world, that's exactly what we buy. Wonderful coffee and a lovely family.  It was sad when Warren, the father, passed away not long ago. He was a great guy.

@PartDeux Yes it is a small world!  I was just thinking that!  There are a few other posters who live in the general area but I don't remember you...of course now I will.  It's been nice chatting with you! Smiley Happy

I didn't know that the father of the company passed away.  Very sad.

I feel badly for those of you who have pets that are terrified of the loud sounds!

We currently don't have a dog but our keeshond was a very mellow dog.  We would take her to the fireworks in the park when we lived in NJ and she would just lie down and fall asleep!  People couldn't believe it!  Yet she was afraid of the vacuum cleaner.

We had another pup who was a Vizsla mix and didn't like fireworks but she wasn't afraid of the vacuum cleaner.  I even bought an attachment to brush her that I could hook onto my Dyson vacuum and she liked it!

Yes, the daughter has since taken over the business.  Got to support our local farms/wineries/coffee roasters!

I enjoyed speaking with you also. Enjoy your 4th of July weekend haddon9!! Cheers to strawberry wine!

@PA Mom-mom  So very true!

We are older now but I'm not ready to downsize.  What I have been doing for the last 5 years (since Covid) has been to get rid of junk in the basement & garage, get some new furniture and renovate the bathrooms.  We also added some fresh touches to the kitchen & family rooms....next we will have the living room & dining rooms painted with some fresh molding..

So if and when that time should come if something should happen to one of us, it will be much easier to get the house ready for market.  I can't see myself living here alone.

@haddon9  Same for us.

@haddon9   I feel I will die in place.  Housing is so expensive and property taxes where we would like to go are high.  Like you I/we are in a constant state of clean out, house upkeep and organization, but for me that is a fun and enjoyable task.

I am 70 and have a lot of energy compared to my friends...they seem to tire easily...me...I was out working in the yard that last few days in the heat.  I am good for about 4 hours these days and I have to quit for the day...no way will they do anything in the yard.

I would rather be busy that sitting, I do enough of that in the winter months.

My husband is 14ish years older than me..so we have that, he is slowing down so I don't ask him to help..he even gave up mowing the yard this summer, as he is dealing with a hip issue, that is yet to be resolved with PT and shots from the Ortho....another doctor appointment is not for another two weeks.

 Not sure what would happen if one of us was left alone...guess that bridge will be crossed when necessary.  I tend to not be a worrier.

I have a friend a couple years older than me....I have posted about her before...she has become so difficult to be around, is miserable and I see no end in sight to her attitude, even her sisters are in the 'tolerate' her stage.  Her problem is that she was forced to retire as the business shut down and has been miserable ever since.  I do not want to be that person.

@haddon9   Since you are not against alcohol, have you ever made long island ice tea....you freeze it - it does not freeze solid and you pour it over 7 up....very refreshing...

@Marp ditto here, but it will be my elderly cat. He is mortified last few years of the loud fireworks especially those  bomb things.  He runs and hides in places I didn't even know we had in the house. Poor Sushi!!!

@Mom2Dogs No I have not made Long Island iced tea but will look up a recipe.  It does sound refreshing & delicious!

I just turned 71 and my energy levels go up and down.  I have bad knees but besides that I'm in pretty good shape.  I had to go to a vascular doctor recently and he said that I was the healthiest patient of his....when I left the exam room and walked through the waiting room I could see what he meant.  They all looked pretty bad.

My husband on the other hand is only 2 years older than me but he is disabled and has a chronic illness.  Being chronically ill can age you so much.  I'm not kidding when I say he looks like he is 20 years older than me.  I have had some strangers think that he was my father.  It's very disheartening,

So we hire out to cut the lawn, trim trees, put out the mulch and do fall clean up.  Yard work is never done!

I'm sorry about your friend.  It sounds like she needs to find something that she can feel passionate about and keep her mind occupied instead of wallowing in her misery.  Maybe some therapy might help to get her to work though her issues.  What does she like to do?

I try to stay busy.  I have a lot to keep busy with indoors and I get together with friends regularly.

My daughter and her husband just bought a house not too far from us and they settle the end of next month.  She is also expecting a baby the end of August.  I will be helping out a lot!

I also have been taking a local craft class for the last three years and the summer session starts in another week.  Most of the women in the class I know now pretty well and we enjoy each other's company.

There is a lot out there to keep one busy with meaningful pursuits.
