Re: Jewelry lovers - please help

When I was in the process of moving from Colorado to Kansas, my home in CO was broken in to. Thankfully I had most of my valuables with me in the first move, but I had to leave things behind because there was just too much. I had neighbors I trusted, and a Realtor friend, but they came in and took everything that wasn't nailed down. I mean, they literally took all the light fixtures, they tore my Pottery Barn cabinet out of my bathroom, took all the towels, bath mats, even the shower head fixture. They tried to get the fridge out of the kitchen, but because it was an older home, the doorway was too narrow. When I had the fridge installed they had to do it in pieces.... lucky for me, thieves are fools. I still lost about $25K in belongings, not to mention damage to property since they tore out every light fixture. I am just thankful for the things I moved that they didn't have access to.

I had police out, they did finger prints, it was clear who might be responsible since they rolled a brand new mower across the back lawn to the other home... but I was in the process of moving and didn't have time to visit garage sales or pawn stores. I lost many items that were personal and can never be replaced, but it was a total violation. If I had the luxury of time to stay there, I would have hunted them down and made sure they were prosecuted. I had to rely on Karma, and hope they all rot for what they did.

It could very well be scattered to other states by now, and/or melted down. However, in the future, check with your local police about unclaimed property seized during arrests. Our police periodically announce they have unclaimed items & people can take a look to see if anything's theirs. They just have to have proof that it is, such as photos, insurance papers, etc.
