@HonestLife  I was watching the Tall Ships in New York Harbor. What a beautiful sight those old ships were. So majestic. Then the fireworks at night.

The whole Bicentenial year of 1976 had lots of fun celebrations. Everyone seemed to be into it. It was a nice time to be alive to witness it all.

I also got engaged that day. LOL

I was in Philadelphia at Penn's Landing to see the celebration.  We were there to see the tall ships come by and I was there with my old boyfriend.

Re: It’s the 4th of July….

DH, kids and I were at my parents house to see my favorite cousin and her kids.

My cousin and her DH and kids were moving to Dubai for a few years. He was transferred by his company because he spoke the language. My cousin and her 6 yr. old DD had been living with my folks for several weeks, she was due to their 2nd child and couldn't travel.

Her husband flew ahead and got their apartment ready. She stayed with Mom and Dad, had the baby and when the baby was 6 weeks old they all made the very long flight to Dubai.  I remembered being told it was a 24 hr. flight  Alone with a 6 yr. old and a newborn, yikes.

I was 16 years old and I remember sitting on our front porch and watching the parade pass by!   It was my parents, my younger sister and I.  My brother was in the military at the time.  Those were the days Smiley Happy

Re: It’s the 4th of July….

I was working...and not happy about it, since our church was having a big celebration that day and I missed it.

I worked in the offices of a textile plant, and though the manufacturing part was shut down that week, the office workers had to help take inventory. I'm in South Carolina, and it was blazing hot, no A/C in the warehouses we were in...just miserable!

Congratulations!

We also went to New York to see the Tall Ships. My brother lived in Manhattan and he had scouted out the best spot to see the ships. I think it was Brooklyn Heights? I am pretty sure that was where we were. The only reason it sticks in my head is the Patty Duke Show song.

Then we went to a concert in Central Park.

I was in grade school and I am not sure what we did.

I have a younger sister who turned 2 on that date.

I remember the Bicentennial celebration.  I was twelve years old.  There were many public events for fireworks.  I also remember many commemorative items being sold through television commercials.  There were coins, flags, plaques, etc being sold for the event.

PSA:

DO NOT LEAVE YOU PETS OUTSIDE.

I always read about so many more pets lost on this holiday. Would like to see more pet owners be responsible, especially on this holiday.
