Keep in mind, too, that the flu shot doesn't protect you until about two weeks after you get it when your immune system becomes fully functioning against the virus. But up until that point you can still get sick with the flu.

Re: It's flu shot time again

We had our (free) flu shots last Friday.  My arm was red swollen for a few days.  It is still sore to the touch.

We had our shingles shot in our left arms and our flu shot in the right arms.  My arms were pretty useless for a few days.

My mother and I went to CVS and got our flu shots (she gets the one for older people). I got the Shingles vaccine (part 1) ant the end of June. You have to get part 2 of the vaccine between 2-6 months. Well CVS has it on backorder for some time (there seems to be a shortage), I hope I'll get it before my 6 months are over.

@Jordan2  Make sure CVS has you on their list of people to call when they get the vaccine in.  I did that with Kroger for my second shot, and they called me.

I'm getting my flu vaccine tomorrow when I go to the grocery store.  I had planned on getting it last week, but when I got there I realized my shirt sleeve wasn't easy to pull up so I had to wait.

@NickNack, I have been calling once a week to see if they have gotten it in. I never thought to ask if I can get on a list, and  CVS hasn't suggested it to me.

@Jordan2

This week I had my flu shot, then had to get on the waiting list at Walgreens for the Shingles shot.....I'm #41 on the list, sigh.

@KingstonsMom, I called CVS today, I was told they expect to get the Shingles vaccine in around October 1. I was told the CDC is limiting the vaccine, CVS gets only one box a month and there are many people who want to get it. I asked if there was a list I could get on and was told no, it is first come first serve. So now I have to call everyday to see if they have gotten it in. Meanwhile the clock is ticking, I have to receive the second dosage by the end of December. If I had known it was going to be a problem, I never would have started with it.

Me and my husband will once again get our annual flu shot but it was brought to my attention that the multi dose vials contains preservatives because it's well for muli doses while the single dose vials do not contain preservatives.  I think I will ask the nurse at my doctor's office to use the single dose vials. Will she have those? Maybe doctors find it more convenient to use the multi dose vials?  I also have been made aware that there are single dose syringes too.  My next question.....is the trivalent sufficient or should we ask for the quadrivalent?  Does anyone know what strain we're dealing with?

       This is why I don't get any of these shots.  No flu, no pneumonia, no shingles NONE of them.  No one knows really what's what with them.   They change all of the time, they may or may not work, they may have side effects, we don't really know what's in them   etc.   Count me out.

@puttypiesmom@Jordan2@lulu1@SilleeMee@ALRATIBA

Got my flu shot yesterday.

So far, so good.

I requested to get the shot this year in the doctor’s office instead of going to our nearby Kroger.

Last year, I got both the flu shot and the pneumonia shot at the same time. For whatever reason, I had a bad reaction (or caught a strain not included).

‘Fever of 103 and white count elevated to 25,ooo.😮

We get offered at university.   I got mine last week.  I'm in contact with thousands of people through out the year.  I always get the shot.

Re: It's flu shot time again

I was seeking the Shingrix vaccine part two from CVS, they didn't have it. CVS said they only get one box a month. I called Rite Aid, they didn't have it either. I then called Walgreens, they had it it, I made a beeline for the store and got the shot! At Walgreens she said she didn't understand why CVS didn't put aside a second dose for the people who got the first one, they should have priority over someone new, this is Walgreen's policy.

@Jordan2, if you paid out of pocket, what was the price, if I may ask.

@suzyQ3, my insurance covered it. The pharmacist said the vaccine is $170 times 2! He said people who aren't covered by their insurance for it are paying out of pocket.
