It's Annoying When The Green Dots Don't Work

they are supposed to be green when there is something new to read or if you haven't read a thread yet. Wish they would fix it. Sometimes mine aren't green, sometimes they are green when nothing new is posted. what is the point of the dots if they don't work properly?
