It WOULD Happen On A Holiday Weekend

My dad left town today for his trip to Canada, and he won't be back for a week, and I am house/cat sitting for him until he returns.

After work, I went to his house and was relaxing when a truck from the county water department pulled up. There's a knock on the door, and the guy from the water dept tells me that there has been a HUGE increase in my dad's water rate. He is normally a 1 or a 2 or at most a 3 (whatever the heck that means), but he's now at a 30! Yikes! They traced the line and it's fine on the city side, which means the break is somewhere on my dad's property.

There are no leaky pipes in the house, so it's somewhere outside. I walk the property and 99% of it is bone dry. I did find one moist section, so I am guessing that is where the break is. I was expecting to find standing water puddles, mud, but all I was able to find was some moist earth in one section.

So now I have to call a plumber to come out and fix the break. Great.{#emotions_dlg.glare}

My dad was born in 1927. He doesn't like spending a penny more than he absolutely has to.

There was no way in hellll I was going to call a plumber on a Friday afternoon, especially when it is a holiday weekend. What? Are you freakin' crazy?{#emotions_dlg.scared} I don't think so. I'll wait until Tuesday. The water dept waited this long to notify of the problem, I think it can wait three more days.

I'm not looking forward to telling him this. He doesn't own a cell phone, so I have no way of contacting him until he reaches his final destination (he's travelling by train).

Oh joy.

He is going to majorly stress and worry when he gets the water bill, finds out that there is a broken pipe AND that it has to be fixed. But it has to be done. Like it or not, it has to be done.

Do you know what it's like when a miser has to put out big $?

It isn't pretty.

Sigh.

This is why I rent. If anything breaks and needs fixing, the landlord takes care of it.

Oy!
