I know exactly how you feel. We had to get a new furnace Monday.

I hope the fix comes soon.

Thanks for all of your commiseration.
Got home yesterday to a freezing cold house. The Heat/Air guy came right away but he didn't have the part it needed. And I had to think about whether to fix it or go for a new one (it's getting to the end of it's life).
Thankfully I had somewhere to stay for the night (WITH my 2 kitty boys) and the Heat/Air guy came out first thing this morning after I'd left for work. I decided to go with the fix, rather than the new. It's not a cheap fix, but cheaper than a new! And I've just had too many major expenses in the past year to take on another. Hopefully I get a couple more years out of the old furnace.
We're starting a warming trend and it's up to 24 degrees!

Dang, KittyLouWhoToo. That sure does stink. I'm glad you got the furnace fixed.

Murphy's Law.
Glad you got it fixed.
When we replaced our heat pump a couple of years ago, it too was on it's last leg and we knew it because the guy I had do my annual "check-up inspection" said maybe another year at best, heat and a/c unit, and went ahead and bit the bullet when I could comparison shop, get a couple of bids, take advantage of the rebate(s) and the tax credit.

I hope you get your heat back soon--that is awful. People don't understand how bad it is. I get an inkling from being without any air cond. or electric for weeks after some hurricanes or tropical storms. Takes all the joy out of life. Far worse when it's heat, so hard to get comfortable when it's cold all the time. I hope it's fixed soon. That is hard, too, when so many others may have the same problem and the contractors are overextended.
ETA, Kiity, as often happens, I read the first few posts and didn't realize there was an update. So glad you are fixed up now, though 24 is still far from comfortable as an indoor temp!

That is a total bummer, hope you get it fixed soon. Hopefully you have a fireplace (I don't, miss having one) but if not, just turn on your oven to 350 and crack open the door... it will warm up some of your space. You should invest in a couple space heaters too, the electric kind that are like radiators, they are safe and really very efficient. Just a side note, we have an insurance policy that covers our furnace, water heater, plumbing... it is a minimal cost each month, but provides protection in case any of those fail or get damaged, which would be a huge cost. Hope you get your heat back soon.
ETA: Read the entire thread, glad to hear you got it fixed.

Oh dear ... glad it's fixed.
My furnace is making weird sounds lately. I hear it groaning in the middle of the night; different sounds never heard before ... I hope it doesn't quit on us before the temperatures rise a bit.

I'm glad you got it fixed!!
My parents had that happen. Thankfully, it was before my dad started this course of chemo; his current regimen makes him very sensitive to the cold. He cannot be out in the cold, drink cold beverages, etc.
They had a power outage in December too, which kept the furnace from coming on, because the thermostat is electric.
My furnace is so old...I hope it doesn't die within the next month.
