Maybe he thinks it's creepy you're staring at him.
He's sitting on his property minding his own business.

Does your husband roll his eyes from behind the paper when you are calling "Abner! Abner! Come look!" , as you are peeking through the curtains? Your neighbor's behavior is Nothing I would feel creeped out about. I'm an early riser too. I go and get my coffee and sit on the side stoop of our home in my PJ's and enjoy the morning sunrise, say my prayers and just enjoy the world waking up. As another poster said, you need another hobby besides peering out window curtains.

No, I do not think it is odd.
Maybe he considers this time of morning “his” time. The neighborhood is still quiet.
I sit outside by myself - back, front - it’s my yard. If I want to sit out there at 2 am, I do.
I personally do not care what my neighbors think if they do happen to see me. It is my time, my yard, and no one else’s business anyhow.

It is easy to say "get a hobby or myob" but this is strange to say the least. Most of us post because we would like another person's honest opinion about a concern. These comments aren't meant to help.
At my stage in life I would go over (love the cookie or cake suggestion) and introduce myself and address the issue respectfully. There probably will be a logical explaination. Maybe you and your husband could go together.
We have moved many times with the military and have had a few really wierd and a couple of dangerous neighbors. It would be good for you to get an answer if you could and then you might sleep a little better. I have sleep problems so I know how troubling that is.
Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Why not be neighborly and introduce yourself to him, if nothing more than commiserating with him about also being an early riser? It doesn't have to be at 4AM, but the next time you see him. (His actions wouldn't concern me, however. He's across the street from you. Normal way to sit and stare is straight ahead, I believe.)

@mistriTsquirrel. I always love seeing your pictures of squirrels. This one especially looks like the plump ones in my yard. Of course, we feed them!

He could be suffering from depression and not able to sleep. Just because he seems to be staring at your home, doesn't mean anything
He could be staring off into space..I think you are jumping to conclusions about them
I think you are acquiring some bad habits, in regards to jumping to conclusions, and keeping track of people
Read a book or something. I don't keep track of my neighbors

It's difficult for me to believe he's really staring at your house. He may not sleep through the night or is just enjoying the quiet like I do before the crazy day starts.
I sit outside in the early morning dark, sometimes at 4am, just to relax and enjoy the quiet. It's a good time to pray or zone out. It might even look like I'm staring though I'm not. My dog is usually roaming the yard. I can see lots of homes but it doesn't mean I'm staring.

Honestly it would bother me too.
The hour it is happening, and the fact that he has more private areas like a back yard to do whatever it is he is doing, yet chooses to be out front and center is a bit strange.
My suggestion is to put this behavior of his in your memory bank at this point, and be aware that your gut instinct is that he or his behavior might warrant watching. If you happen to be up, glance and see if he is there and notice any change to that routine.
If it is just his routine, then it is a routine. But sometimes, if someone is very calculating, they will establish a seemingly innocent routine before doing something sinister against that routine. For example, (and not at all saying this is what is happening) but is he getting a feel for what is going on in the neighborhood at that hour for some reason.
Some people just have quirks, and some people are odd to the point of needing to be watched.
Your gut feeling is that this is making you uncomfortable. Don't totally discount that feeling. Kind of a watch and wait situation with this guy.

Hello, @Shorty2U. It does seem a little odd, but since your husband is outside puttering around at that hour maybe he could give a wave to your neighbor. He could even walk over and say something about all the early risers in the neighborhood.
Or, if you like to bake, maybe you could stop over there at some point with cookies or a pie to welcome them to the neighborhood. Getting to know neighbors can be so helpful.
As a last resort, if you’re really nervous, you could check the auditor’s office to see who bought the house. Then you can check online to see if he is on any watch list.
Your husband is probably right, and he sounds like a good guy!
