My late MIL left me one of the best irons I've ever used. I think it's a Sears brand. Anyway, I love it because it has this super long chord and I can just about set up the ironing board anywhere. And, it does a great job.

Here's my concern: there is this rubber piece attached between the iron and the chord - it kind of allows the chord to stand up off the item I'm ironing. Gee, I hope I can explain this. Well, it gets plenty hot. My wrist will hit it every once in a while and I can sure feel the heat. The chord is not frayed anywhere and I store it alone on a shelve after using.

Other than the rubber piece getting very hot, nothing else seems to be wrong.

Would you throw in the towel and buy another iron? I've considered it, but can't find one with a chord that long.

(Yes, unfortunately, I do have to iron some pieces esp linen in summer.)
