What a waste! My dad's assisted living facility used to get donations and the residents used to make floral arrangements.  Another time, when he was in rehab/nursing home they had the type of flowers donated and were handed out to the residents (who wanted them).

I can see if this was a food item, that was past expiration the date.

It makes me sick to see perfectly good items... that could have been donated.  I am sure they do the same for the produce department too.

If they are throwing away less than perfect flowers then they must be doing the same with produce and other less than perfect perishables.  I'd be more upset about that than flowers.

Lots of rules these days.  We had a large party (dance group) in a senior center.  We rented the hall.  We were not allowed to leave any food behind to give to the residents.  It was all newly made, fresh.. Even if some of the food products were fruit, or veggies we could not leave them either.  So much waste and so many people in need.

I think it's great that she wants to do something, and I think that her heart is in the right place, but I think that she's going to run across a lot of red tape and rules and regs, in order to try and donate the flowers.

Actually produce and flowers, etc. get sent off to landfills and become nitrogen in the soil.  Not necessarily a waste of sort, but I know what you mean when you would like to see things like food distributed to other causes and flowers brightening someone's day.  Eventually, as the flowers wilt, they will be sent off to recycling or a landfill.
