I'm going to watch the DVD again (didn't get to see all of it before) about "The Men Who Built America". It was on the History channel. I think they're showing it again, but with the DVD I can watch it at my prime time. I want to read and learn about Ford, Rockefeller, Carnegie (and they pronounced his name different than I'd ever heard it). Also, J.P. Morgan, and Vanderbilt. We never studied this in school, that I remember.
So anyone you're interested in?

The Pritzker, Field, and Crown families from Chicago. The new book about the Koch brothers from Omaha looks interesting.

I have always loved reading historical biographies.
I am starting the Doris Kearns Goodwin book on Teddy Roosevelt and William Howard Taft - "The Bully Pulpit."
I just went to the Wilcox Mansion, the site here where Teddy was sworn in as President. It's a National Trust site and had some very interesting exhibits. He was president in a time very much like we are experiencing now. The parallels are fascinating.

Another biographical fan here. Right now I'm reading about a current personality (Chris Christie) but am fascinated by people from all periods of time.
I have several bios loaded on my Kindle and can't wait to dive into them.

Yes. I always enjoyed biographies. Also I will often see something about someone historical or celebrity and end up reading up on them.
Most of my education has come from reading on my own since I left school. (with the exception of the basics of course).

You might check out your public broadcasting TV station's website for archived segments of their "American Experience" series. This series' historical/biographical documentaries on American presidents, generals, industrial greats, etc. have been brilliant.
I saw the four-part documentary on Bill (and Hillary) Clinton earlier this week -- the second time I've caught it. Magnificent reporting, and very timely, since Mrs. Clinton is seeking a presidential bid. I also particularly recall the excellent segments on Lyndon Johnson, Abraham and Mary Lincoln, Henry Ford, Jimmy Carter, Robert E. Lee, and several others. Also segments on American movements and historical periods. Fascinating.

most of the ones I have a interest in I won't get the ""real story"" from the History Channel or any of the others.......I go to netflicks and check out the documentaries there......and check out who made said documentary before I hit play.............................raven

That series of the Men who Built America, I really enjoyed the first time on the History channel. I also recently watched The World Wars and then watched the Extended version on the H2 channel where they went into more detail and added Charles DeGaulle and other people in the wars.
